Dakota Johnson has signed on to star in an upcoming sci-fi action film titled Trudy Blue. This will be her first venture into this genre. The film is set in the near future and centers around an outlawed android maid who wakes up in a landfill 2,000 miles from home. She must undertake a journey through a strange, unfamiliar world to find her way back to where she belongs, according to the synopsis.
The movie will be directed by Angus MacLane, renowned for his work on several Pixar films, including Finding Dory and Lightyear. The screenplay is written by Evan Twohy. Besides starring in the film, Johnson will also serve as a producer through her TeaTime Pictures banner, collaborating with Alex Saks of Saks Picture Company, Ro Donnelly, and Samantha Racanelli. While the film currently has no distributor, it has been launched at the American Film Market. CAA Media Finance is handling domestic rights, and Legendary’s 193 company is managing international sales.
Johnson’s most recent acting role was in A24’s romantic comedy Materialists, which also starred Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. She also appeared in the comedy Splitsville alongside Adria Arjona, which she produced. Her upcoming projects include the psychological thriller Verity, based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel, where she will star opposite Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett.
