Step into the dark, twisting corridors of the psychological thriller Past Life, directed by Grimmfest’s Simeon Halligan. Boasting an impressive cast, including Jeremy Piven (known for Mr Selfridge and Edge of Tomorrow), pop star Pixie Lott (Fred: The Movie, Christmas Karma), Aneurin Barnard (Peaky Blinders, Dunkirk, Time), and Tim McInnerny (Game of Thrones, Harlots, Gladiator II), this film promises a gripping ride into the depths of the mind.
Past Life expertly weaves a complex narrative that shifts through timelines, as old crimes resurface when a traumatized journalist encounters a celebrity hypnotist. Set to debut in the US on March 24th and in the UK on April 6th via Miracle Media, the film invites viewers to question the boundaries between memory and reality.
The story centers on Jason (Barnard), a renowned war correspondent haunted by his years covering conflicts in the Middle East. Despite his efforts to lead a normal life, the scars of violence linger. When his wife, Claira (Lott), suggests an evening at a late-night show, Jason is skeptical—hypnosis seems like a scam. That is, until he witnesses the renowned hypnotist Tim (Piven), who claims he can unlock visions of past lives. A snap of Tim’s fingers transports Jason into the mind of a 1980s serial killer.
Haunted by vivid, inexplicable memories of extreme violence, Jason struggles to distinguish his own thoughts from something far darker. Deeply worried, Claira encourages him to undergo further hypnosis, hoping to erase these disturbing visions. Instead, each session reveals even more horrifying details, leaving Jason increasingly unhinged, obsessed, and dangerous.
With the assistance of retired journalist Elliot Reed (Nicholas Farrell), and additional hypnosis sessions aimed at uncovering clues, the investigation intensifies. They discover a man connected to the victims, but his identity and motives remain shrouded in mystery. As Jason’s grip on reality weakens and Claira fears his PTSD may lead to a breakdown, the situation takes a deadly turn when a new victim is found murdered. Recognizing that a killer has been reawakened from the past, Jason must harness the power of hypnosis to uncover the truth and protect those he loves.
Past Life offers a haunting and visceral exploration of a fractured mind, where the boundaries between reality and illusion blur with deadly consequences. Prepare for a dark descent into the depths of the subconscious—an intense thriller that will leave you questioning what is real.
