Ahead of the rumored trailer release for Dune 3, fans received their first official glimpse of the upcoming film today. Directed once again by Denis Villeneuve—the visionary behind the first two installments—Dune: Part Three is based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah.
Returning star Timothée Chalamet reprises his role as Paul Atreides, alongside a cast that includes Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, and Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides. Additionally, Robert Pattinson is set to appear in an undisclosed role.
Filming for Dune: Part Three commenced in July 2025 and concluded in November of the same year. The film is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026—clashing with Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Fans have humorously dubbed the date “Dunesday,” reminiscent of 2023’s “Barbenheimer,” when Barbie and Oppenheimer premiered simultaneously.
The plot of Herbert’s novel continues the story of Paul Atreides, also known as Muad’Dib, who now rules as emperor of the known universe. With unparalleled power, he is worshipped as a religious icon by the Fremen but also faces opposition from political factions he displaced and a conspiracy brewing within his own ranks.
The full trailer for Dune: Part Three will be officially released tomorrow, Tuesday, March 18. In anticipation, Timothée Chalamet shared his character poster on social media Monday, which quickly amassed over 600,000 likes within two hours. Warner Bros also unveiled multiple character posters featuring returning cast members and announced new additions, including Isaach de Bankolé as Farok. Previously announced stars Robert Pattinson and Anya Taylor-Joy also appeared in their respective posters.
This film continues Frank Herbert’s saga, adapting Dune Messiah and following the events of Dune: Part Two. Fans eagerly await its release, which will compete at the box office with the blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday.
