Maya Hawke Joins Cast of Netflix’s New Series “The God of the Woods”

Maya Hawke, renowned for her role as Robin Buckley in Netflix’s Stranger Things, has been cast in the upcoming Netflix series The God of the Woods. The actress, daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, continues to expand her acting portfolio with this new project. She recently voiced Anxiety in Inside Out 2 (2024) and has appeared in films such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), Fear Street Part One: 1994 (2021), Asteroid City (2023), and will soon portray Wiress in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, arriving this November.

Netflix announced that Hawke will portray Judy Luptack in The God of the Woods, a series created by executive producers and co-showrunners Liz Hannah and Liz Moore. Her character is described as “smart and quietly determined,” the first female investigator in the male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Judy is tasked with uncovering the truth behind the disappearance of a young girl from a summer camp in upstate New York.
Based on Moore’s 2024 novel of the same name, The God of the Woods is a multi-generational drama set in the Adirondacks. The story delves into the dark secrets of the Van Laar family, exploring themes of class tension, privilege, and the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar—an event possibly connected to an earlier family tragedy. As past and present collide, the series reveals the destructive effects of wealth, influence, and abuse of power.

At this time, no other cast members have been announced, and a release date has not yet been confirmed.
