Teaser: First Look At Harry Potter HBO Max Show

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, has been unveiled.

HBO and Warner Bros. Television are developing a new series based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod are leading the project, which is scheduled to debut on HBO Max this Christmas. The teaser introduces viewers to the magical world of Hogwarts, with Dominic McLaughlin cast as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton portraying Hermione Granger.
The ensemble cast also includes notable actors such as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, among others.

The series’ logline states: “There is nothing special about Harry Potter — at least, that’s what his Aunt Petunia always says. But on his 11th birthday, a mysterious letter inviting him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry reveals a hidden world of magic, friendship, and adventure. As Harry embarks on this new chapter, he must also confront a dangerous enemy from his past.”

HBO Max chief Casey Bloys recently explained to Variety why now is the right time to bring Harry Potter back. He said, “There’s no perfect moment, but I believe it’s a good time because the books have remained popular over the years. Now, you have parents who grew up with the series wanting to share it with their children, and new generations discovering it on their own. From a business perspective, that’s a significant opportunity. Creatively, I’ve always preferred television because it allows more time to develop characters and stories. With a series based on multiple books, it’s important to have the freedom to explore the world more deeply rather than fitting everything into a two-hour movie.”

Harry Potter Season 1 is set to premiere on HBO Max on Christmas 2026.
