The psychological thriller film The Housemaid has generated significant buzz since its debut. Directed by Paul Feig, the movie premiered in U.S. theaters this past December under Lionsgate’s distribution. Adapted from Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel, the film features Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, Amanda Seyfried as Nina Winchester, Brandon Sklenar as Andrew Winchester, and Michele Morrone as Enzo Accardi.
Exciting news for fans: a sequel titled The Housemaid’s Secret (also known as The Housemaid 2) is currently in development. This installment will adapt the second book in McFadden’s series, which shares the same name. According to Deadline, The Housemaid’s Secret is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027. Notably, this release date coincides with several other major films, including Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars and Warner Bros.’ The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Additionally, Disney’s Frozen 3 is slated for November 24, 2027, with Columbia Pictures’ Buds and Universal’s Murder, She Wrote both arriving on December 22.
Returning to the sequel will be Sydney Sweeney as Millie and Michele Morrone as Enzo. While Nina and Andrew Winchester are absent from the second book, there has been no official confirmation regarding Amanda Seyfried or Brandon Sklenar reprising their roles. However, it has been announced that Kirsten Dunst has joined the cast. Paul Feig is set to return as director.
The novel’s storyline offers a chilling glimpse: “It’s hard to find an employer who doesn’t ask too many questions about my past. So I thank my lucky stars that the Garricks miraculously give me a job, cleaning their stunning penthouse with views across the city and preparing fancy meals in their shiny kitchen. I can work here for a while, stay quiet until I get what I want. It’s almost perfect. But I still haven’t met Mrs. Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom. I’m sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood around the neck of her white nightgowns when I’m doing laundry. And one day I can’t help but knock on the door. When it gently swings open, what I see inside changes everything…”
The Housemaid is currently available for purchase or rental on platforms such as Prime Video, Apple TV, and others.
