Justine Triet Expands Cast and Crew for Her English-Language Debut “Fonda”

Palme d’Or-winning director Justine Triet, renowned for her film Anatomy of a Fall, has announced significant updates on her upcoming project, Fonda, which marks her first full-length English-language feature. The film has also expanded its cast with several prominent actors and gained support from notable production companies and distributors.
The cast now includes breakout star Odessa A’zion, known for Marty Supreme; rising British actor Ewan Mitchell, recognized for House of the Dragon and Wuthering Heights; three-time Emmy winner Cherry Jones, famous for 24 and The Handmaid’s Tale; and established UK actor Benedict Wong, known for Weapons and Doctor Strange. Filming is scheduled to take place from April to June.

Prior to its announcement at the Berlin Film Festival, Fonda was already attracting attention with an impressive lineup, including Mia Goth (Frankenstein), Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers), Frank Dillane (Urchin), and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Candyman). It has now been confirmed that Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney (The West Wing, I, Tonya) will also star in the film.

The story is described as a psychological thriller set within a seemingly idyllic “huis clos” — a closed, intense environment — exploring the fragile boundaries of the mind as grief and obsession take hold of its characters. The narrative promises a “vertiginous dive into the shifting limits of a sound mind.”

Fonda reunites director Justine Triet with her previous producers Marie-Ange Luciani (Les Films de Pierre) and David Thion (Les Films Pelléas), as well as sales agent MK2 Films. Belgian company Les Films du Fleuve, co-founded by the Dardenne brothers and known for Rosetta, is also co-producing. UK partners House Productions (Conclave, The Zone of Interest) and BBC Film have joined as co-producers.

Studiocanal will distribute Fonda in theaters across France, Germany, Italy, Benelux, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand. The project is also financed by IPR.VC, with whom MK2 Films maintains a multi-year partnership.
