Following his successful directorial debut with Focus Features and Universal’s Obsession, Curry Barker is hinting at his next horror project.
Barker recently disclosed that his upcoming film, Anything But Ghosts, exists within the same universe as Obsession, featuring a direct reference to the current theatrical release and even nodding to the fate of Nikki (Inde Navarrette).
During a recent post-screening Q&A, Barker explained, “There’s a news segment in the next movie where a news anchor discusses a triple homicide committed by a woman.” This ties into the ending of Obsession, where Nikki’s possession by Bear (Michael Johnston) is broken when he takes his own life. Despite her rescue, Nikki’s obsessive rage leads her to kill her friends Sarah (Megan Lawless) and Ian (Cooper Tomlinson).
Anything But Ghosts, Barker’s upcoming collaboration with Focus and Blumhouse’s Atomic Monster, follows two con artists pretending to be ghost hunters who stumble into a dangerous encounter with a real dark entity. Barker not only co-writes the screenplay with Tomlinson and directs the film, but also stars alongside his longtime comedic partner. The cast features notable names such as Aaron Paul, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Violet McGraw.
