Amazon MGM Studios has secured the worldwide rights to the upcoming action film The Kellys, which will be available for streaming on Prime Video. The film features stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Liam Hemsworth and is currently in production.
Directed by Brad Peyton and produced by Thunder Road Films, The Kellys tells the story of Jack Kelly, a disgraced New York City police officer whose wife, Molly, is taken hostage by terrorists inside an old armory. To save her, Jack must team up with the people he fears most—his own family.
Peyton, known for directing Netflix’s hit Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez, as well as blockbuster Dwayne Johnson films like Rampage and San Andreas, co-wrote the screenplay with Tze Chun (known for Gotham and Once Upon a Time).
This marks a reunion between Schwarzenegger and Amazon MGM, following his role as Santa in their upcoming Christmas film The Man with the Bag, directed by Adam Shankman. The actor, who is also a former California governor, has several projects in the pipeline, including a new King Conan film in development at 20th Century from Mission: Impossible franchise writer Christopher McQuarrie. Schwarzenegger is represented by UTA and Patrick Knapp of GGSSC.
Liam Hemsworth, who previously starred in Netflix’s The Witcher as Geralt of Rivia and appeared in Susannah Grant’s romantic drama Lonely Planet, also joins the cast. He is represented by Brandon Liebman of Range Media Partners and David Krintzman of Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Peyton, whose films have grossed over $1 billion worldwide, is represented by CAA, The Characters Talent Agency, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Thunder Road Films’ upcoming release includes the crime thriller By Any Means, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Mark Wahlberg, set for release by Paramount on September 4.
The deal for The Kellys was brokered by CAA Media Finance with Amazon MGM.
