Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore to Star in “Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses,” a Film About Children’s Book Author Margaret Wise Brown

Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore are set to star in Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses, a new film directed by Rebecca Miller, who also wrote the screenplay. The film explores the life of renowned children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown.

Based on Leonard S. Marcus’s book Margaret Wise Brown: Awakened by the Moon, Moonsong tells the story of Brown, the beloved creator of classic children’s books such as Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, first published in the 1940s. Known as “the laureate of the nursery,” Brown’s literary influence endures today, with her works still read to children before bedtime and in classrooms worldwide.

The project was brought to life by Miller and her Round Films producing partner Damon Cardasis, with support from Amanda Goodwin, Keri Selig, and Sasha Alexander. The legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese will serve as an executive producer. Production is scheduled to begin in spring 2027.

Miller and Scorsese’s collaboration stems from their relationship developed during her work on the five-part documentary Mr. Scorsese, which recently received three Emmy nominations, including for directing. Miller’s previous accolades include a DGA Award, an Independent Spirit Award, and a grand jury prize at Sundance.
