Elizabeth Banks will star in an upcoming half-hour comedy series for Apple TV, featuring an impressive lineup of recurring actors. Joining her are Hamish Linklater (Widow’s Bay, Manhunt), Michelle Buteau (Survival of the Thickest), and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi, Barbie). They will be part of a cast that already includes Ted Danson, Katey Sagal, Rob Delaney, Jared Goldstein, and Spencer Moss.
Filming for the series is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles later this year.
Created by Liz Heldens and Matt Ward, the yet-to-be-named series centers on Heidi (Banks), who is starting a new chapter after a messy divorce, aiming to create an exciting new life for herself and her children. The story takes a comedic turn when Heidi gets involved in her father’s (Danson) retirement community’s unexpected romantic adventures. This leads her to form an unlikely alliance with his girlfriend’s perpetually single son.
In the series, Hamish Linklater will portray Evan, Heidi’s ex-husband; Michelle Buteau will play Melissa, a talented advertising executive; and Simu Liu will appear as Dr. Zhou, a physician treating Heidi’s son.
Produced for Apple TV by 20th Television, the series will be showrun and executive produced by Liz Heldens and Matt Ward. Banks will also serve as an executive producer through her Brownstone Productions, alongside producers Max Handelman and Krissy Wall. The pilot will be directed by Jonathan Krisel, who will also serve as an executive producer. Additional executive producers include Quinn Haberman (Selfish Mermaid), Jason Winer, and Jon Radler (Small Dog Picture Company).
