During Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel, the studio wrapped up the event with a thrilling surprise. They shared new information about Ryan Coogler’s highly anticipated third installment in the Black Panther series, set to hit theaters on December 15, 2028.
Following the announcement of the release date, Marvel stunned fans further by revealing that David Jonsson will portray T’Challa’s son, also named T’Challa — a character teased at the end of 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Jonsson gained widespread fame with his role in 2024’s Alien: Romulus and further skyrocketed in popularity after starring in 2025’s The Long Walk. He is also set to appear in India Donaldson’s upcoming crime comedy The Chaperones.
Rumors about the plot of Black Panther 3 have been circulating for years, particularly regarding who will portray the titular character. While much remains under wraps, fans now have a clearer picture of the film’s cast and some story elements, though details about the storyline itself are still forthcoming. This film will be Coogler’s next project following his successful venture into horror with 2025’s Sinners.
Regarding the rest of the cast, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, who took on the Black Panther mantle, will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Winston Duke’s M’Baku and Tenoch Huerta Mejía’s Namor, the latter of whom played the primary villain in Wakanda Forever, are also confirmed to star in Doomsday. However, it remains uncertain if Namor will return for a third Black Panther film.
