Marvel Studios has officially announced the casting of Kit Connor as Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, in its highly anticipated X-Men reboot. The news comes after much speculation, with earlier rumors suggesting Cooper Hoffman might take on the role. However, Marvel surprised fans with its actual choice.
According to a report from Deadline, Connor was selected for the part last week after meetings with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and director Jake Schreier. The studio conducted auditions over the past few months, narrowing down their options to find the perfect fit for the iconic mutant leader. Connor’s previous work includes roles in Warfare and The Wild Robot, but he is best known for his portrayal of Nick Nelson in Netflix’s hit series Heartstopper. He recently appeared in the series’ cinematic finale, Heartstopper Forever, and is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the video game Elden Ring, directed by Alex Garland, scheduled for release in 2028.
Kit Connor becomes the fourth actor to portray Cyclops on screen, succeeding James Marsden, Tim Pocock, and Tye Sheridan. Marsden is expected to reprise his role in Avengers: Doomsday. Notably, Connor is the second confirmed cast member for the X-Men film, with actress Samara Weaving cast as Emma Frost.
Cyclops is a beloved character among fans, known for leading the X-Men team and wielding powerful optic blasts. His ability to shoot destructive beams from his eyes is iconic, although it requires him to wear glasses or visors to control his powers. The character also has a complex romantic history with Jean Grey, who will be portrayed by Sadie Sink in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Directed by Jake Schreier, known for helming the upcoming Thunderbolts in 2025, the X-Men reboot is set to hit theaters after Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for late 2027. Fans are eager to see how Marvel brings the legendary mutant team to life under this new direction.
