Léa Seydoux stars in the upcoming crime thriller Gentle Monster, a film that challenges the notion of the ideal family. Directed and written by Marie Kreutzer, this Netflix movie centers on Lucy, a concert pianist, and her husband Philip.
Their seemingly perfect family life is shattered when Philip is arrested on disturbing charges. The early morning arrest changes everything, leaving Lucy devastated and determined to uncover the truth. The Gentle Monster trailer reveals Lucy as a successful musician who moves with her husband and son from Munich to a countryside home for a fresh start. However, their lives unravel when Philip is accused of possessing child sexual abuse material on his computer.
This shocking accusation forces Lucy to question her trust in Philip and how the man she loved could be involved in such a crime. The story follows Lucy’s journey to uncover the truth while protecting their son. Kreutzer crafted the film from Lucy’s perspective, highlighting her turmoil and emotional struggle.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kreutzer explained, “It was essential for me from the start that this couple felt relatable, like they could be my friends. I wanted to avoid stereotypes about pedocriminals and show that these perpetrators can be ordinary people.” He added, “They are everywhere, not just creepy strangers lurking in the shadows.”
Kreutzer also praised Seydoux’s performance, especially since much of the film was shot in German. He said, “Léa is unconventional and a free spirit. She questioned many aspects during filming, but never doubted Lucy’s choices.”
Gentle Monster premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15, 2026. It will be released in theaters on October 30, 2026, followed by streaming on Netflix starting November 18, 2026.
