The official trailer for Verity has been released, showcasing Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway in a gripping psychological thriller adaptation. The preview reveals Johnson’s character uncovering dark secrets about Hathaway’s character.
The trailer begins with Johnson’s character, Lowen Ashleigh, arriving at the ominous Crawford estate. Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a famous author, while Johnson portrays Lowen, a struggling writer hired to finish Verity’s book series after a tragic accident.
Lowen is initially told that Verity is unable to speak or walk due to the accident. However, the trailer’s climax hints at a disturbing secret: Verity can actually move. According to Cosmopolitan, the film follows Lowen as she discovers unsettling autobiographical notes by Verity. These revelations force Lowen to confront disturbing truths about Verity’s husband, Jeremy, blurring the lines between fiction and reality, manipulation and desire, and opportunity and obsession.
Based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 best-selling novel, Verity leans heavily into mystery, with Hathaway’s character appearing more capable and sinister than first assumed. Throughout Lowen’s stay at the estate, she witnesses Verity moving around, suggesting she may not be as helpless as she seems.
Directed by Michael Showalter, the film boasts a talented cast including Josh Hartnett as Jeremy Crawford, Nathan Tylutki, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, Daniel Echevarria, and Asel Swango.
Verity is set to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
