Emilia Jones (Bad Sisters, Coda) is set to headline The Retrievals, the upcoming series from Emmy-nominated Maid and Sirens creator and executive producer Molly Smith Metzler.
Inspired by Susan Burton’s Peabody Award-winning New York Times podcast, The Retrievals follows a group of IVF patients who form an unlikely community as they seek justice from Yale University after undergoing egg retrieval procedures without anesthesia when a nurse stole their fentanyl.
Jones will portray Gabby Clemente, a New Haven bartender and student teacher whose life is upended by the traumatic experience. After learning that a nurse at the clinic had been stealing large quantities of fentanyl, Gabby searches for other victims and ultimately leads a groundbreaking legal battle against Yale University.
Metzler serves as writer and showrunner and will executive produce through her Quiet Coyote banner alongside Maid and Sirens collaborators Colin McKenna and LuckyChap. LuckyChap’s Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie will also executive produce.
Additional executive producers include Caitlin Roper for The New York Times and podcast creator Susan Burton.
The series also reunites Metzler with director Lila Neugebauer, who previously directed episodes of both Maid and Sirens. Neugebauer will direct the pilot episode of The Retrievals and serve as an executive producer.
