The first trailer for The Unknown has arrived, offering a surreal and unsettling glimpse at the upcoming film starring Léa Seydoux and French-Canadian actor Niels Schneider.
The trailer was released on September 4, 2026, introducing Schneider as David Zimmerman, a nearly 40-year-old photographer whose life takes an extraordinary turn after a chance encounter at a wild party.
Seydoux, known to franchise audiences for her role as Sabine Moreau in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, plays a mysterious woman named Eva. During the party, David becomes captivated by her and follows her after the two lock eyes across the crowd.
The film’s official synopsis sets up the bizarre premise: “David Zimmerman, almost 40, is a photographer but no one knows it. When friends drag him to a wild party, he spots a woman in the crowd and can’t take his eyes off her, he follows her… A few hours later, David wakes up: he’s in the body of the unknown woman.”
Running for approximately 1 minute and 23 seconds, the trailer establishes a dreamlike and increasingly eerie atmosphere. It opens with David at a drug-fueled party before shifting into a series of mysterious and disorienting images as his fascination with Eva grows.
As the night unfolds, David follows Eva, seemingly unable to explain his fixation with her. But the situation takes a disturbing turn the following morning when he wakes up and discovers that he is no longer in his own body. Instead, he has inexplicably transformed into Eva and is trapped inside the body of the woman he encountered the night before.
The trailer’s psychedelic visuals and haunting score reinforce the film’s surreal premise, leaving plenty of questions about what caused David’s transformation and what will happen to him next.
The Unknown is directed by Arthur Harari, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Anatomy of a Fall. The film is distributed by NEON and produced by Nicolas Anthomé. It is adapted from the graphic novel The Case of David Zimmerman, created by Arthur Harari and Lucas Harari.
With its unusual body-swapping premise, unsettling tone and acclaimed talent behind the camera, The Unknown looks set to deliver a distinctly strange and psychological cinematic experience.
