Johnny Depp is back in dangerous territory.
The first teaser preview for Day Drinker, the upcoming action thriller starring Depp alongside Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz, has arrived — offering a brief but intriguing glimpse at the mysterious world of Marc Webb’s new film.
The 19-second preview is deliberately cryptic. It opens on a deck of tarot cards surrounded by flickering candles before cutting to a glimpse of Depp’s mysterious character. An axe then crashes into the table, accompanied by a threatening line from the actor, immediately setting the tone for what appears to be a dark and unpredictable thriller.
The full teaser trailer is scheduled to arrive on September 24, giving audiences their first substantial look at the film.
A Mysterious Encounter at Sea
Written by Zach Dean and directed by Marc Webb, Day Drinker centres on a bartender working aboard a private yacht, played by Madelyn Cline. Her character encounters a mysterious passenger portrayed by Depp, with the unexpected meeting eventually pulling them into a dangerous criminal underworld.
Penélope Cruz plays a criminal figure who becomes connected to the pair, creating a complicated web of relationships and secrets as the story unfolds.
The film also features Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto and Anika Boyle in supporting roles.
The project reunites Depp and Cruz, who previously appeared together in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Murder on the Orient Express.

The new preview keeps Depp’s character largely hidden, but his distinctive appearance and ominous dialogue suggest audiences can expect another unusual performance from the actor.
The brief footage follows the release of an earlier first-look image from the movie, which showed Depp sporting long grey hair and a full grey beard while holding a drink.
For Cline, Day Drinker represents another major step onto the big screen following her breakout success with Netflix’s Outer Banks and appearances in projects including Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
Webb previously explained that Cline’s casting was particularly important to the emotional balance of the film, describing her as an actor capable of bringing the vulnerability and heart he wanted for the story.

Lionsgate has scheduled Day Drinker for an Australian and international theatrical rollout around its March 26, 2027 release date, with the film taking over a previously occupied Lionsgate release slot.
