Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz are back together on the big screen, with the first trailer for Day Drinker offering a mysterious glimpse at their latest collaboration alongside Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline.
Directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man, (500) Days of Summer) and written by Zach Dean, the upcoming action thriller centres on a bartender working aboard a private yacht. Her seemingly routine encounter with a mysterious passenger, played by Depp, quickly pulls her into a dangerous criminal world.
Cline plays the yacht bartender who finds herself caught between Depp’s enigmatic character and Cruz’s shadowy criminal figure. As the trailer unfolds, it becomes clear that the trio are connected by a much deeper and more complicated history than initially expected.
The footage also hints that Day Drinker may be more than a straightforward crime thriller. Alongside violent confrontations and revenge-driven action, the trailer teases supernatural elements, leaving plenty of questions surrounding Depp’s mysterious character and the true nature of his connection to Cruz.
For Depp and Cruz, the film marks their fourth collaboration. The pair previously appeared together in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Murder on the Orient Express, making Day Drinker another reunion for the longtime screen collaborators.
The film also represents another major studio project for Depp following his recent return to prominent roles. He is additionally set to star as Ebenezer Scrooge in the upcoming Ebenezer, while Day Drinker gives audiences a very different version of the actor in a dark, action-focused role.
The supporting cast includes Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto and Anika Boyle. Webb has previously described Cline’s character as the emotional centre of the story, adding another layer to what appears to be an increasingly dangerous encounter aboard the yacht.
Lionsgate will release Day Drinker exclusively in cinemas on March 26, 2027.
With Depp, Cruz and Cline at the centre of a story mixing crime, revenge and supernatural mystery, Day Drinker looks set to take audiences on a very unpredictable voyage.
