Following his work revitalizing the Predator franchise at 20th Century Studios, filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg is teaming up with Disney for another reimagining of a classic property.
Sources tell Deadline that Trachtenberg, director of Prey, is attached to direct an original project inspired by Disney’s iconic Sleeping Beauty. The untitled film is currently in the early stages of development and is expected to put a distinctly new spin on the familiar fairy tale, drawing on Trachtenberg’s unique creative style.
Disney is keeping the story details firmly under wraps for now. However, sources say the project is separate from the studio’s Maleficent films, which starred Angelina Jolie, and will chart its own creative course.
Trachtenberg developed the new concept with Rayna McClendon, while Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf are writing the screenplay.
Trachtenberg will produce alongside his longtime producing partner Ben Rosenblatt, with Star Wars producer Michelle Rejwan also on board as a producer.
At Disney, EVP of Production Jessica Virtue is overseeing the project alongside Creative Executive Alina Mota, both reporting to Disney Live Action president Daria Cercek.
With the project still in its early development phase, further details about the story, cast and production timeline have yet to be announced.
