Netflix has found the stars of its upcoming series adaptation of Hannah Grace’s bestselling romance novel Icebreaker.
Daisy Jelley, known for Poser and How to Have Sex, has been cast as Anastasia “Stassie” Allen, while Connor Simos (Subversion) will play Nate Hawkins in the college hockey romance drama.
Icebreaker follows Anastasia Allen, a transfer student determined to earn a spot on the Olympic team, and Nate Hawkins, a campus hockey star with his sights set on the NHL. Their lives collide after an accident forces their teams to share a rink. What begins as a clash between two fiercely competitive athletes soon develops into an intense attraction, putting their ambitions—and their self-control—to the test.
Published as the first installment in Grace’s Maple Hills trilogy, Icebreaker became a major publishing phenomenon. The novel was originally released in November 2022 before receiving a wider release in 2023 and went on to spend 70 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. It has sold nearly 5 million copies worldwide, while the three-book Maple Hills series has surpassed 7.5 million copies in global sales.
Jade Halley Bartlett, whose credits include Road House, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Miller’s Girl, created the series and serves as an executive producer. Amanda Lasher (Gossip Girl, The Bold Type, Togetherness) is the showrunner, writer and executive producer.
Grace will also executive produce the adaptation alongside Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre through Cooper’s Unwell Productions.
Icebreaker is the latest addition to Netflix’s growing slate of literary adaptations. The streamer is also developing projects based on titles including I Will Find You, Little House on the Prairie and the breakout series His & Hers. Upcoming adaptations include East of Eden, Pride and Prejudice, The Corrections and Lonesome Dove.
