Madeleine Arthur, known for Devil in Ohio, and Dianne Doan of Warrior are set to lead the cast of Doula, a Canadian-U.S. psychological horror film written and directed by Goldie Jones.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin October 1 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with production supported by the Manitoba Film and Music tax incentive.
Inspired by strange true events, Doula follows a doula, played by Doan, who arrives at an isolated mountain cabin to assist with a difficult delivery. She soon finds herself trapped alongside her pregnant client, played by Arthur, in a sadistic, reality-bending game in which escape could come at a devastating price.
James J. Yi (Gook) is producing alongside Alice Teufack, Judd Tilyard (Silent Night) and Verity Fiction.
Andrea Chung (The Card Counter) is executive producing with Carvel Rock Pictures, alongside Kristine Estorninos. Nicole Arbusto serves as casting director.
