Jamie Lee Curtis is bringing plenty of chaos to the small screen in the newly released trailer for Newlyweds, NBC’s upcoming comedy series starring real-life married couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly. The first preview introduces Curtis as a troublesome ex-wife, promising plenty of awkward encounters and hilarious family drama.
Co-created by Curtis and Gail Lerner, Newlyweds follows Jeanie (Leoni) and James (Daly), a couple who impulsively decide to get married after a whirlwind romance. However, their newfound happiness soon faces some unexpected challenges as they attempt to navigate their complicated family lives.
The trailer opens with Jeanie and James meeting at a bar before quickly falling in love and tying the knot at a rather unconventional wedding ceremony held at a rock-climbing gym. While their romance may have moved at lightning speed, married life proves to be considerably more complicated.
Curtis stars as Claudia, James’ ex-wife, whose unexpected appearances threaten to disrupt the newlyweds’ relationship. In one particularly amusing moment, Claudia sneaks up behind Jeanie, setting the tone for the family tensions and comedic encounters that lie ahead.
Adding to the chaos are Jeanie’s children, Poppy and Lolo, who are understandably curious about their mother’s new husband. The trailer features a particularly funny exchange in which the children question whether James might be interested in their mother’s money, only for Lolo to turn the tables and wonder whether Jeanie might be after James’ wealth instead.
Beyond the comedic clashes, the preview also promises some heartfelt moments as the couple attempts to build a life together while adjusting to their respective families, eccentric personalities and unexpected complications.
Speaking about the series, Daly previously described the unusual circumstances surrounding the central relationship. The actor explained that Jeanie and James marry without really knowing each other, with both bringing established lives, family members and personal baggage into their new marriage.
Alongside Leoni, Daly and Curtis, the ensemble cast includes Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Bill O’Neill and Al Madrigal.
Newlyweds marks another television project for Curtis, who serves as both a co-creator and executive producer alongside Lerner. The series also reunites Leoni and Daly, who previously played a married couple in the political drama Madam Secretary.
The upcoming comedy will premiere on NBC on Friday, October 23, at 8:30 p.m. ET, with episodes available to stream on Peacock the following day.
