Fans of bestselling authors Christina Lauren have a festive treat coming their way. Netflix is bringing the romantic holiday novel In a Holidaze to the screen, with the film set to premiere on the streaming platform on December 2.
Written and directed by Tiffany Paulsen, known for Winter Spring Summer Fall, the movie follows Maelyn Jones, a directionless twentysomething whose life takes an unexpected turn after she makes a major romantic mistake.
During a Christmas getaway at her family’s beloved cabin in snowy Utah, Maelyn makes a desperate wish for a fresh start. Instead, she finds herself caught in a mysterious holiday time loop, forcing her to relive the same Christmas over and over until she figures out what truly makes her happy.
Described as a festive combination of Love Actually and Groundhog Day, In a Holidaze promises romance, comedy and plenty of holiday charm. Maelyn is struggling with a stagnant job, living with her parents and an uncertain future when the time loop gives her repeated opportunities to rethink her choices.
The film stars Maddie Ziegler, Rob Lowe, Graham Phillips and Elias Kacavas. Patton Oswalt, Jackie Sandler, Gil Bellows and Andrea Anders are also part of the cast.
Authors Lauren Billings and Christina Hobbs shared the adaptation news on Instagram, teasing fans with what they can expect from the movie.
“We can’t wait for you to see the cabin, the sad but gorgeous Christmas tree, Maisie and Andrew, Uncle Benny, and the whole gang,” the authors wrote, while suggesting a holiday watch party complete with Christmas cookies and matching pajamas.
In a Holidaze marks the first film project to emerge from Alloy Entertainment’s multi-year first-look deal with Netflix. Christina Lauren’s original novel was published in 2020.
Alloy Entertainment president and chief creative officer Leslie Morgenstein is producing the film alongside Elysa Koplovitz Dutton, the company’s executive vice president of film. Rob Lowe is also serving as an executive producer.
The adaptation is part of a growing slate of Christina Lauren projects making their way to the screen. Their novel The Paradise Problem is currently in development with Rebelle Media, while Love and Other Words is also being adapted, with Magic Hour Entertainment attached to the project.
With its time-loop premise, snowy setting and romantic holiday storyline, In a Holidaze could be the perfect addition to Netflix’s Christmas lineup.
