Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Barbershop, bringing the beloved comedy franchise back to Chicago with a new generation of barbers, customers and plenty of opinions.
The upcoming series, inspired by the hit film franchise that began with Ice Cube’s 2002 movie, stars Jermaine Fowler as Travis “Trav” Walker. All eight episodes are set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on February 10, 2027.
The teaser introduces Trav as he returns to Chicago determined to continue his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop. However, the neighbourhood and the shop have changed, leaving Trav to find his place among a new group of barbers and the loyal customers who continue to make Calvin’s a community gathering point.
Rather than revealing major story details, the first look focuses on the personalities behind the barber chairs. Trav is quickly introduced to an eccentric collection of employees and customers, suggesting that the familiar combination of comedy, arguments, gossip and community conversations will remain at the heart of the franchise.
While Ice Cube’s Calvin Palmer is not the central character of the new series, his legacy remains an important part of the story. The original Barbershop followed Calvin as he struggled with the future of his family’s business while gradually realising that the shop meant far more to the surrounding community than simply providing haircuts.
The new series is being led creatively by Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original Barbershop, alongside co-showrunner Max Searle.
Fowler is joined by Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman. The series also features a strong lineup of guest stars, including Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker and Belmont Cameli.
The project comes from Amazon MGM Studios, MGM Television, Hartbeat, Busy B Entertainment, Prominent Productions and State Street Pictures, with Kevin Hart among its executive producers.
The Barbershop franchise first arrived in cinemas in 2002, starring Ice Cube alongside Cedric the Entertainer, Eve, Anthony Anderson and a memorable ensemble of characters. The success of the original led to Barbershop 2: Back in Business, the Beauty Shop spin-off starring Queen Latifah, and Barbershop: The Next Cut in 2016. Across the franchise, the films have earned more than $235 million worldwide.
Barbershop premieres February 10, 2027, exclusively on Prime Video.
