Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Heartland, a new mystery thriller starring Oscar winner Jessica Chastain as a former country music superstar pulled back into Nashville when her niece mysteriously disappears.
Written and directed by Shana Feste, who previously helmed the country music drama Country Strong, Heartland follows Misty Jones (Chastain), a once-famous performer who has spent the past 20 years away from the Nashville spotlight.
Her return is prompted by the disappearance of her niece, Charlie Heart (Carter Faith), a rising country musician who appears to be following in Misty’s footsteps. Determined to find Charlie, Misty begins investigating the disappearance herself, quickly discovering that there is far more beneath Nashville’s glamorous music scene than meets the eye.
The trailer sets up a tense mystery as Misty encounters police questioning, media attention and people who seem determined to keep her from uncovering the truth. After blood is discovered in Charlie’s room, the investigation takes a much darker turn when the case becomes a potential murder investigation.
Rather than backing down, Misty continues digging. Her search takes her into some of Nashville’s darker corners, where she discovers disturbing clues and eventually finds a blood-stained piece of clothing at a secluded cabin. The trailer closes with Misty coming under attack, suggesting that whoever is responsible for Charlie’s disappearance will go to dangerous lengths to keep their secrets hidden.
Chastain also gets the opportunity to showcase her singing abilities in the film. The actress previously performed onscreen as Tammy Faye Bakker in The Eyes of Tammy Faye and portrayed country icon Tammy Wynette in the miniseries George & Tammy. For Heartland, she once again steps into the world of country music, performing alongside Jennifer Nettles, who plays country singer Winnie Jo Lean.
The film’s soundtrack will feature original performances from the cast as well as songs from several country artists. Carter Faith, who plays Charlie, is also a real-life rising country musician and recorded new music for the movie.
Joining Chastain and Faith in the cast are Garrett Hedlund, Ross Lynch, Paul Sparks, Jennifer Nettles, John Hawkes, Hill Harper, Norbert Leo Butz, Wynn Everett, Isabelle Kusman and David Rysdahl.
Heartland looks set to combine a missing-person mystery with a gritty exploration of Nashville’s country music world, giving Chastain a particularly complicated character to play as Misty confronts both her own troubled past and the secrets surrounding her niece.
Heartland premieres on Netflix on November 13, 2026, with the film’s soundtrack arriving on the same day.
