Fifth Season is set to produce The Family Disappears, a new comedy from Bad Apples director Jonatan Etzler, starring two-time Emmy winner David Harbour and Emmy nominee John Cena.
Written by Brendan O’Hare, the original screenplay blends comedy with thriller elements. The story follows an overworked father who returns home from a business trip only to discover that his entire family has vanished — and a mysterious stranger has purchased the house and moved in.
Fifth Season is producing the film, with Nick Weidenfeld through Friends Night and Alexis Garcia through CAT5 serving as producers. The pair previously collaborated on the comedy Friendship, starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, which was produced by Fifth Season and A24.
The Family Disappears appears to share some of the same thematic and tonal territory as Friendship, as well as HBO’s dark comedy DTF St. Louis, which explores suburban dysfunction and recently earned Harbour an Emmy.
Production is scheduled to begin Nov. 10 in Atlanta, Georgia.
