Amazon MGM Studios is developing Vineyard Haven, a new romantic drama from All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll and producer Greg Berlanti, bringing a story of young love, missed connections and second chances to the big screen.
Carroll is writing the screenplay and will serve as an executive producer on the project, while Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Michael McGrath are producing through Berlanti Schechter Films.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Martha’s Vineyard, Vineyard Haven follows two teenagers who share a memorable summer together and hope to reunite during the summers that follow. However, circumstances repeatedly prevent them from finding their way back to each other.
Nearly a decade later, their paths finally cross again. The young man has since become an NBA star, returning to Martha’s Vineyard while recovering from an injury. Meanwhile, the woman has returned home as she attempts to rebuild her life following a difficult marriage.
Their reunion sets the stage for a story exploring how time, personal struggles and unexpected life changes can shape relationships, while leaving room for the possibility of rediscovering a connection that never truly disappeared.
Carroll brings considerable television experience to the project. She served as creator, executive producer and showrunner on All American: Homecoming, as well as executive producer and showrunner on the long-running sports drama All American. She has also worked on NBC’s Found and held co-executive producer roles on The Resident and Rosewood.
The project continues Berlanti Schechter Films’ relationship with major streaming platforms. The company’s upcoming projects include Netflix’s thriller An Innocent Girl, starring Kerry Washington, James Marsden, Colman Domingo and Chloe East, alongside Amazon MGM’s Red, White & Royal Wedding, which sees Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez returning to their respective roles.
With its blend of sports, romance and personal reinvention, Vineyard Haven has the potential to deliver an emotionally driven story about love that endures despite the passage of time. Further details, including casting and a potential release date, have yet to be announced.
Vineyard Haven is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios.
