Sophie Nélisse has offered fans a first glimpse of her upcoming Netflix series, This Summer Will Be Different, as the highly anticipated adaptation reaches an exciting milestone. Although the show has yet to receive an official release date, production has officially wrapped.

On October 23, 2026, Netflix shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Nélisse on the set of the series. In the image, the Heated Rivalry star sits behind the steering wheel of a vehicle, wearing a red-and-white top and holding a clapperboard displaying the show’s title.

The photo quickly sparked excitement among fans, who were eager to spot details inspired by the original novel. One fan, @Sid_Loo, commented, “An oyster drawn right on the slate and gingham in the truck, they clearly read the book.” Meanwhile, @SarahTran68 celebrated the production milestone, writing, “Production wrapped already! Can’t wait to see Sophie Nélisse bring Carley Fortune’s novel to life!”

Based on Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel of the same name, This Summer Will Be Different began filming in August 2026 and completed production in October. The 10-episode series stars Nélisse as Lucy Ashby, a woman in her 20s who develops romantic feelings for her best friend’s brother, Felix. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Prince Edward Island, the story follows their evolving relationship across several summers.

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum, Fortune explained that Prince Edward Island played a significant role in inspiring the novel. She first fell in love with the island through the pages of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables before visiting with her best friend in her early 20s.

“That vacation, the beauty of the island, the warmth of its people, and the friendships that sustain us are the foundation of This Summer Will Be Different,” Fortune shared. She also expressed her excitement about bringing the story to the screen with Netflix and transporting viewers to Prince Edward Island’s “glittering shores and windswept beaches.”

Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart serve as the series’ showrunners, while Anna Beben is attached as a producer. The ensemble cast also features Francesca Reale, Roby Attal, Malin Akerman, Megan Follows, Nadine Bhabha, Matias Lucas, and several other performers.

Behind the scenes, Clark, Stewart, Fortune, Karen Maine, Jennifer Kawaja, Elise Cousineau, and Sam Levine serve as executive producers. Maine, Jasmin Mozaffari, and Fab Filippo are directing the series’ 10 episodes.

With filming now complete, anticipation continues to build for This Summer Will Be Different. Fans will have to wait for Netflix to announce the official release date before they can experience the romantic story on screen.
