A mysterious journey through time, an unexpected connection and the possibility of rediscovering love are at the heart of Eternal Return, the upcoming fantasy-romance starring Naomi Scott and Kit Harington. The newly released official trailer offers a glimpse into a story that blends romance, mystery and an intriguing concept about the nature of time.
Directed by Yaniv Raz, the film follows Cass (Scott), a young woman struggling with emotional detachment following a painful heartbreak. Having reached a point where she feels incapable of opening herself up to love again, Cass’s life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters Virgil (Harington), an enigmatic cartographer and photographer, on her 29th birthday.
Virgil introduces Cass to an unusual theory: that the past, present and future all exist simultaneously. What initially sounds like an impossible concept soon becomes the foundation of an extraordinary adventure.
With the help of his friend Malcolm (Simon Callow), Virgil is attempting to construct a map that could allow someone to travel back into their past. Intrigued by the possibility, Cass eventually asks Virgil to create a map of her own, setting the stage for a journey that could change the way she understands love, loss and the experiences that have shaped her life.
The newly released trailer teases the film’s unusual approach to time travel, with Virgil and Malcolm working together to bring their seemingly impossible plan to life. For Cass, the adventure represents more than simply revisiting the past. It offers an opportunity to confront her emotional wounds and potentially rediscover the ability to love.
Joining Scott, best known for Aladdin and Smile, and Harington, widely recognised for his role in Game of Thrones, is an ensemble cast featuring Sonoya Mizuno, Jay Lycurgo, Simon Callow and Simon Kunz.
Eternal Return previously premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2025, and is now preparing for its theatrical release.
With an intriguing premise that combines the possibilities of time travel with an emotionally driven romantic story, Eternal Return looks set to offer something a little different from the traditional fantasy-romance.
Eternal Return arrives in cinemas on December 4, 2026.
