INsiders Guide: ALEXTBH, Ivy Mairi, Disco Shrine

Disco Shrine has returned with the brand new highly anticipated single entitled “Everyday”. It showcases the hard work that goes into achieving ‘the american dream’, and combines pop, electronic synths with a hint of hip hop. Disco Shrine has toured extensively throughout the US, and has been featured in some high profile media outlets including Refinery 29, the 405, and Earmilk.

“Everyday” is the follow up to Disco Shrines smash hit single ‘Up In The Air’, a song which narrated Jessica Delijani’s parents tale of immigrating to America in order to give me a better life. “Everyday” on the other hand is all about seizing opportunity and not taking it for granted. Jessica explained the single saying “The sentiment of the chorus is “Everyday I’m on my own”. It’s not meant to be a melancholy sentiment, but one that represents the hard work that goes into achieving your dreams. Because at the end of the day, the only person that’s going to really believe in you and get you to where you want to go is yourself”. The new single is a collaboration with  rapper Omenihu.

Malaysian artist alextbh has released a brand new single entitled “walls”. The new track is produced by acclaimed UK artist Maths Time Joy, and in an interview with i-D, Alex explained the story behind the new song; “‘walls’ is a continuation of my previous single ‘still mine.’ I actually have very vivid imagery of the exact moment I started writing that song. I was kneeling in front of my coffee table. I wasn’t even sitting on my sofa. I was on the floor — sobbing, writing it. I’m very proud of this song because I didn’t try to structure or rhyme it, as opposed to other songs. My mind works in a really pop structured way. But that song, I just spoke my mind… That was the day I was denied my US tourist visa. I just told myself, ‘Okay you know what? Fuck this place. I’m going to write a song about you.’ But I also wanted to write about this guy that’s been on my mind for so long, so I’ll use both of those visuals together.”

Toronto artist Ivy Mairi is shifting from folk to pop with an 80’s vibe new single called “Strange Love”. After realizing she was unable to express herself entirely through folk music, Ivy made the jump to pop music. She worked with producer Kieran Adams on the new single as well as the additional songs on her upcoming EP “Polarity”.

Ivy Mairi has been releasing records in the Toronto community for a decade, and she now the new single “Strange Love” and the new EP “Polarity” is going to put her on the pop music map. The EP will explore themes of love, experience, and growing up.
