Urban Music Makes It’s Mark In August With Future, Fat Joe, Cassie, G-Eazy And More

Even after dropping two LP’s rapper Future continues to release new music. He returns with a new single entitled “You Da Baddest” which features female rapper Nicki Minaj. The Benny Boom-directed video, filmed in Miami in February, finds Minaj strutting around in a variety of bikinis throughout the video, which unintentionally causes fights to break out among the hotel’s guests. This all occurs whilst Future drops his hot verses on the hotel’s rooftop over looking the ocean. Future has had a big year for music, not only has he released his LP’s “Future” and “HNDRXX” in February,

he continues to add new tracks to the streaming versions of his albums.

His album “Future” has seen the addition of his “Mask Off Remix” which features Drake and of course the song “Extra Luv” which features rapper YG. “You Da Baddest” can now be found as a bonus track on “HNDRXX”, along with Future’s other recent single “Pie” that features Chris Brown. Future has been tearing up the charts lately and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of the rapper slowing down. While Nicki Minaj on the other hand hasn’t released a new album since 2014’s “The Pinkprint”, but the rapper has kept busy this summer with her appearances on tracks like Katy Perry’s “Swish Swish”, DNCE’s “Kissing Strangers”, and Major Lazer’s “Run Up.”

“You Da Baddest” is available on ITunes now.

Fat Joe is almost timeless having hit singles over four decades. The Bronx legend returns with his old producer from his “Lean Back” days re-teaming with Cool & Dre’s hit maker ‘Dre’. The new single called “So Excited” is the first single taken from his forthcoming 11th studio album which will be his first solo release since 2010. “So Excited” oozes of style and class while also providing the extra bounce you need to start a party like only Joe Crack the don can do.

Recently Fat Joe made his way back onto the urban charts with his smash club banger “All The Way” taken from his duo album with female rapper Remy Ma. The song made it’s mark not on on the Billboard charts but on radio airwaves all over the country. “So Excited” is due to do the same, with it’s vibe and productions from ‘Dre’, it gives the song that old school hip hop vibe from the 90’s. “So Excited” featuring Dre is out now.

It’s been a while since we last heard from songstress and urban artist Cassie. Well she’s making a comeback in a big way teaming up with rapper G Eazy for the new song “Love A Loser”. She’s now officially signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment, and more music should be on the way in 2017. “Love A Loser” is produced by Ben Billions & Danny Boy, and has the “Me & U” singer owning her own self-worth. The last time we had seen anything musically from Cassie was her 2013 mixtape entitled “Rockabyebaby”.

Record mogul Diddy first played her new single on Drake’s OVO sound radio on Apple Music on July 22nd and now the single is officially out for all to enjoy. The self-love anthem has Cassie proclaiming, “I’d rather lose a lover than love a loser” on the chorus. Cassie’s last studio release was back in 2006 which spawned the mega hit “Me & U” which hit the number 3 spot on the Billboard charts.

“Love A Loser” is available on ITunes now.

G Eazy returns with gangsta rapper Jadakiss on a hot new song entitled “Get A Bag”. This was one for four new songs released by Eazy last Thursday. The MCs alternate between career boasts, religious pleas and familial praise on the deadly track. This song is a little more ‘gangsta’ then we’re used to with Eazy but I have to say the enlistment of the LOX rapper Jadakiss is a more then welcomed addition on “Get A Bag”.

The Bay Area native also dropped his emotional pop track “Just Friends” featuring Phem, a different type of sound with “Nothing Wrong” and “Wave” featuring Rexx Life Raj. G Eazy has been making a lot of waves on the radio scene appearing in tracks from BeBe Rexha and Camilia Cabello as of late, and now with his new forthcoming album on the books, there won’t be a moment of absence from the rap star.

“Get A Bag” is available now.

There’s no slowing down singer songwriter BeBe Rexha as of late. She returns to the music scene with a more gangsta inspired track called “That’s It” which features rappers 2 Chainsz and Gucci Mane. The track, which follows her Lil Wayne assisted single “The Way I Are (Dance With Somebody)”, is the second single to be released off of the second half of her debut LP “All Your Fault: Pt. 2, which is set for released on August 11.

This is a trap-inspired track which contains production from Murda Beatz and a confident flare from BeBe, which sends her in a different direction on this LP, after her last was more in a pop genre. Time will tell if the 27-year-old’s latest is a buzz track or the project’s next official single, but that’s a lot of fire power to waste on a non-promoted song. I’m more of a fan of Rexha’s pop song’s but this is definitely a refreshing approach for the singer.

“That’s It” is available now.

Major Lazer’s latest EP, Know No Better, came out last month, surprising fans two years after the electronic hip-hop group’s previous LP, “Peace is the Mission”.  The original music video for the track which features artists Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo on vocals, has a video game-style first person perspective that shows a person handing out flyers with the title printed on it to various strangers on the street. But I guess two video’s are better then one because the group now has a new video for the song. While watching, you can click an icon to switch between two perspectives of a boy’s life. It’s fun to change viewpoints between his ordinary life and his aspirational dreams.

The video was put together with the help of interactive video company Eko, who worked with the video’s director, Philip Andelman, to mesh two storylines. “Major Lazer’s creative execution of this parallel story allows audiences to simultaneously step into the shoes of this young dreamer’s reality and his dreams themselves, experiencing his aspirations coming true with him in the moment,” said executive producer Lihu Roter in a statement. “It’s a lean forward experience that’s highly engaging, and indicative of what I believe mainstream storytelling will look like in the years to come.”

What I like about this song is it’s urban tropical sound and it also features some of the most popular artists in hip hop music at the moment most notably Quavo who seems to be on everything at the moment. If you like Major Lazer’s work you will no doubt be a fan of this song. “Know No Better” is out now.
