THE HIT LIST

‘The Hit List’: New Music From Eminem, Selena Gomez, One Republic, Backstreetboys…

After some absence we’re back with a whole new ‘Hit List’, and remember guys if there’s anything you wanna hear be sure to drop me a line on neillfrazer@hotmail.com and I’ll do my best to cover it. So lets kick things off…

OneRepublic – “Start Again (feat. Logic)” : This single is a little left of center for the One Republic band, but they lend their talents along with Logic for the brand new track “Start Again”. It’s one of the lead singles taken from the new hit series soundtrack of ’13 Reasons Why’. “Start Again” features the amazing vocals from frontman Ryan Tedder over a driving urban beat, with Logic coming in at the halfway mark to offer a poetic verse on suicide. The lyrics of the song are quite fitting for this show as it mimics exactly what Clay Jensen and friends are going through on Season 2 of ’13 Reasons Why’. This soundtrack also features songs from artists like Billie Eilish, Khalid, and Years & Years. Both the soundtrack and season 2 of the show are out now.

Selena Gomez – “Back To You”: This is another song that features from the hit show ’13RW’, and not only does Selena Gomez provide the music she also serves as executive producer to the hit show. Gomez debuted the single on Beats 1 Radio and told Zane Lowe, that the song was a little more personal to her. “With this song, it’s a very special record,” she said. “I want it to be a beautiful message in a really complicated way but really fun. But that I think ‘Back to You’ was more of my special project that I wanted to give to season 2.” E! news reported that the single was written about her on and off again relationship with Justin Bieber, we can’t confirm that. But what we can confirm is both this season and this soundtrack are set to make waves in the entertainment world. Both are available on all media platforms now.

Royce Da 5’9 – “Caterpillar (feat. Eminem)”: Royce Da 5’9 has reteamed with his Bad Meets Evil partner on the new single “Caterpillar” and it’s hot. It’s Royce’s fourth single taken from his seventh studio album “Book Of Ryan”, and also features vocals from King Green and is produced by Symbolyc One and Epikh Pr. The music video is directed by James Larese and showcases the rap veterans taking turns firing verses while the other remains stoic, taking in the boom of the beat. I have to say after a lengthy period of bad music, I think Eminem has redeemed himself lyrically on this single. We’ve also learned that this will open the doors for a new Bad Meets Evil album, and if this is anything to go by you can expect it’s going to be good.

Charlie Puth – “The Way I Am”: Charlie Puth recently released his brand new album “Voicenotes” and the opening song “The Way I Am” is a great way to open any album. The new single is a coming-of-age upbeat pop jam that depicts his road to becoming confident with himself. This autobiographical track is driven by an electric guitar riff with Puth’s crooning vocals with a pop melody. Charlie Puth now has three single in the Billboard 100, and although things are on the rise for him, he reminds listeners through his lyrics that he still faces self-doubt, insecurities and anxieties.

HEDEGAARD – “I Need You Right Now (feat. Hayley Warner)”: “I Need You Right Now” is the new EDM single from HEDEGAARD which features the vocal talents of Hayley Warner. This single is destined to heat up both the EDM and radio charts, and while is little is known about both artists it still wont stop momentum of this track. HEDEGAARD is a danish DJ and award winning music producer signed to Copenhagen Records. For those not familiar with Hayley Warner well you might remember her from the seventh season of Australian Idol in which she finished runner up. The Daily Telegraph named Warner as one of Australia’s most accomplished songwriters, and she even co-wrote Grammy nominated artist Tori Kelly’s single “Hollow”, and since moving to LA she’s signed a publishing deal with Warner music.

Backstreetboys – “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”: 90’s boyband the Backstreetboys are back with a brand new single from a forthcoming unnamed album. The single titled “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” marks their first song debut since “Show ‘Em (What You’re Made Of)” off their 2013 album, “In A World Like This”. This new single is written by Stephen Wrabel and produced by Stuart Crichton and Jamie Hartman, and steers away from their usual sound of Sweden produced pop, which is something I can honestly say I miss from these guys. Never the less enjoy the reboot or reunion of the Backstreetboys.

Samantha Harvey – “Please”: Samantha Harvey is a British YouTuber-turned-singer-songwriter who is making some serious waves in the music industry and adding to the list of musicians who found fame on YouTube. Even now as an established artist she’s still getting millions of views on her covers she uploads to YouTube, and now with a new single “Please” out and a new EP on the way, the future looks bright for Harvey. Not to mention she’s currently performing at some of the biggest music festivals in the world. It was her cover of a Sam Smith song she uploaded to YT that blew her exposure up, and she spoke of it to clevver.com saying “I did a Sam Smith one and it just blew up overnight because I realized that you could change it from private to public and people could share it. I kept doing covers and got more bookings and eventually got managers who said I didn’t need a record label. So I released my EP independently and then got a label from that, so it’s really ironic. My main goal was never to be famous or recognized for singing because I didn’t think I was great, I was just doing it because I loved it.”

I love her new single, and from what I’ve heard from her new EP she’s one to watch.
