Exclusive Interview With Sterling Infinity, The Artist Being Compared To Prince

Sterling Infinity is a unique artist and someone likely to surprise any listener. He’s garnered attention from music mogul’s around the world by combining both electric soul and synth rock, and has been compared to some of the greatest performers of our time including Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Steven Tyler, Queen front-man Freddie Mercury. Now Sterling Infinity is set to introduce himself to the world with his new self titled album that was released July 20th. I got the opportunity to speak to this new musical phenom;

Tell me about yourself, and where the stage name Sterling Infinity came from?

As my father was dying, he told me that I should name myself “Sterling Infinity” because love is pure, infinite and it never dies. When I began to love myself unconditionally, and I accepted myself for the artist that I am, I began to become Sterling Infinity (Sterling is the name my parents gave me when I was born). Sterling Infinity means to me that when I walk in the infinite love that is within, I set the highest standards for myself. I strive to write the best music, give the best performances, and wish the very best to all who listen to my work (as well as those who have not come across my music).

When and where did you first discover your passion for music?

While growing up I always knew that music would be a huge part of my life, but when I moved to New York City and discovered music on my own terms, I realized that I communicated musically and a brand new language was opened up to me. I initially started in gospel and then transitioned to my current synth-rock sound.

You’ve garnered a lot of comparisons to the late great Prince, how does that feel and is he someone that inspires your work?

I am greatly honored by being compared to such a great musical master. He was a true High Priest of music. He inspired me. His music is some of the most sophisticated and beautiful that was ever composed and played. He provoked me to create the best music that I possibly can. He set a very high standard.

What has been the hardest part of your career?

The hardest part has been to get to this stage in my career. It is very difficult, if not nearly impossible, for a musician to make their way from anonymity and navigate themselves through the many challenges of the music industry to get to this point. I feel gratitude that I made it to this stage of my career and hopefully I will be fortunate enough to break through and that my music will be widely heard. I feel that the reason that I came on this planet is to share my gift and the songs that I feel that people need to hear in this day and age. I am a servant to the art of music and I have dedicated my life to it.

What has been your biggest achievement?

Singing at Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden. To have the privilege to sing where The Greats have sung is one of the highlights of my career.

Tell me about your new album?

This album is about the making of me and the many emotions and events that occurred during the process of discovering myself. Compared to my gospel career, it is unrestricted and it has a sense of freedom and sensuality that transformed me as a person and as an artist. It is about my dating life in New York City and how I matured.

What’s the best comment you’ve received about your work?

That I am authentic and that my music has touched people.

Out of anyone in the music industry, who would you love to work with?

Steven Tyler. I respect his journey and his creativity and his unique gift. He has a certain spirituality that comes across in his music that is heartfelt.

What makes all the hard work you’ve put into the album worth it at the end of the day?

That my fans have enjoyed it so much and that the songs and the two music videos have received such great reviews. The album was a success.

Do you have planned for your next tour?

During my next tour, I plan on singing songs from this record as well as updating some of the most popular songs with the type of sounds and instruments that I am currently inspired by.

What’s next for Sterling Infinity?

I am currently working on a new album with a London and European release (to be released later in America).
