Music Spotlight: Wingtip

Producer Nick Perloff-Giles hails from Brooklyn, but he’s better known as rising pop sensation Wingtip. Nick Perloff-Giles introduced the project back in 2015 with early fan favorites including “Wonder” and “Keep You Warm.” Following a steady stream of releases throughout 2016, he released his most critically acclaimed track to date “Rewind” via Billboard while amassing over seven million streams on the song over its first two months.

With some dynamic songs under his belt and a growing tour schedule, Wingtip has quickly become an artist to watch. His breakout single “Rewind” which featured singer Sophie Strauss, quickly became a global smash, and in under three months, the track has amassed over 12.2 million streams and counting.

Music seemed to come naturally to Perloff, who is influenced by Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, and went from playing guitar in rock bands during high school to composing electronic music on his laptop with inspirations ranging from Skrillex and Diplo.

Perloff enrolled in Columbia University, where his musical talents became a hit at campus parties. Prior to graduation, he recorded “Rewind” with Sophie Strauss, and the infectious instrumentals made an immediate impact on the viral music scene. Signing to Republic Records at the top of 2017, Perloff continues to chart new territory and consistently engage audiences with his signature blend of pop, EDM and acoustic music.

My favourite song from the rising artist has to be “Walls” that features vocalist Delacey. The female singer has collaborated with The Knocks, Markus Schulz, and more. This EDM banger has a mixture of a gentle guitar mixed with an uplifting  high pitched pop instrumental.

“Cross Your Mind” was another huge hit for Wingtip, it featured the vocals Morgxn, and it’s about being in a tricky situation with someone. The incredible lyrics so this song might have to do with one of the co-writers who happens to be breakthrough artist Lauv.

Now after a series of successful tracks, producer Wingtip is bringing Summer back with the pop-tinged record “Ghosts of Youth” EP, which shows the DJ stepping out of EDM world into the vocal spotlight. It contains a group of beautifully crafted songs, one of which is the laid back “Fake It”. It  explores the complexities of the singer’s own sensibilities in forgoing his happiness for the sake of someone else’s. The song is laced with indie electro-pop sensibilities and sleek arrangements, that gives us a refreshing sound. Perloff spoke about the meaning behind the song; “The concept in ‘Fake It’ is one of my favorites that I’ve written – it’s about going through anxiety and depression but not wanting to worry someone out of love for them. It’s a sentiment that I’ve definitely felt before but have never been sure how to articulate until this song.”

If this EP showcases anything, it’s how much talent producer Nick Perloff-Giles really has. From his energetic electro-pop synths, to his slick production and honest and personal lyrics. All these elements make for a youthful and refreshing EP, one that you won’t be able to stop listening too.
