INsiders Guide: Fiona Grey, Vanessa Forero, C. SHIROCK and Young & Sick

Emerging music sensation Fiona Grey has been writing and performing music with Los Angeles as her home. Originally from Chicago, Grey utilizes the earnest nature of her raw vocal quality and defines her sound as “dirty pop,” teased by shades of sultry, soulful melodies. Drawing inspiration from the world of Hollywood, it’s unrealistic expectations and the vices that people use as a form of escapism, Grey hopes that her music will help listeners aim to be the most pure and honest versions of themselves. “There is a lot about living in a pop culture centered world that we deem as ‘normal behavior’. I hope that the music can remind the listener that this follower-centric, alternate persona universe we live in is all temporary happiness,” reveals the songstress who is known for her dynamic glittery performances.

Grey’s brand new EP Cult Classic is produced by Grammy award-winning Mike Schuppan (Paramore, M83, Ziggy Marley) and mastered by Dave Cooley (Fitz & The Tantrums, Stone Temple Pilots), the release is packed with powerful storytelling and imaginative visuals. Grey admits, “Each song has its own identity and story it wants to tell”.  Grey has found success performing on some of the worlds biggest stages including Ravina (Chicago), Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles) and Irving Plaza (New York).

‘Girls Like Me’ is the brand new video from Grey and it expresses the importance of revealing all your different sides to one another, whether it’s your vulnerable side or something you don’t always wish to share. ‘Girls Like Me’ is available now.

British / Colombian singer-songwriter Vanessa Forero is soon to release her follow-up record to her debut ‘From The Uproar’. Since we last heard from the folk/Latina/acoustic artist, she’s had a UK tour, had over a million plays on Spotify, recorded live videos and performed at the infamous Abbey Road Studios. Her music has been played on BBC radio, RCM (Colombian television) and SKY 1. Vanessa Forero has had the opportunity to perform all around the country and Europe with her ‘feather girls’, including festivals, Sofar Sounds gigs and supporting renowned artists (such as Beth Orton, Gizmo Varillas among others).

Now she is preparing for the release of her controversial single “Pablo Escobar”. It took her three years to complete the project, knowing the pain that the subject of her song has caused in Colombia. She finally agreed to stay true to her inspiration and release the song, knowing art isn’t always comfortable. ‘Pablo Escobar’ is the first single off her upcoming EP ‘Fuego’, which will be released later this year.

We’ve featured C. SHIROCK on “The Guide” many times before and this artist continues to impress us. Now this rising star has released the brand new single “Eyes of Sorrow”, which features dark electronic synths and digital soundscapes. C. SHIROCK has found success with his music featured in multiple TV networks including MTV, NBC and ABC. He has performed at major summer festivals in front of hundreds of thousands of people across the US and UK, alongside acts such as Twenty One Pilots, Cage The Elephant and Manchester Orchestra, to name a few. Once again C. Shirock has created another musical masterpiece in “Eyes Of Sorrow”.

Visual artist known as Young & Sick (aka Nick van Hofwegen) has released new single “Ohh My Ghosts.” It’s taken from the upcoming EP that’s due for release in Spring of 2019. On the new track, Nick notes, “I’m a terrible sleeper, I don’t do it enough, rarely as deep as i’d like. My mind, like many people’s doesn’t quiet just because I’m tired. My past and the uncertainty of the future is what spirals before shut-eye. I found the main sample I cut on splice while in bed and decided to get back up and make this song about the ghosts that prevent me from REM.”
