INsiders Guide: Miynt, KYOSi, Patrick Krief, pink roses, Fiona Grey, Eden Warsaw, The Band Gooch and Piper Cole

Stockholm artist Miynt has released a brand new single and new taste of her upcoming EP, “Peaches.”

Miynt wrote and co-produced “Peaches,” of which she describes, “The initial idea was to make a song that basically was just drum-fills throughout the whole song but then the guitar sneaked itself into the song. It went really fast, we probably made it in half a day and then put some synth-stuff on it a couple of days later. I was in kind of a confused state of mind when I wrote the lyrics, I wanted an answer from someone and the lyrics describes that, but in a more spaced out way.”

The new track proceeds Miynt’s official return to the spotlight with self-produced single, “Vacation with Bond in south of France part 2,” a song that Miynt wrote to soundtrack a James Bond movie that was never made. The track marked Miynt’s first release since her 2016 debut EP and was the first reveal from her upcoming sophomore EP, due out summer 2019 via B3SCI Records, the majority of which was mixed by Jake Aaron (Snail Mail, A$AP Rocky, Grizzly Bear, Solange).

“Vacation” has already seen love from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Flaunt, and KALTBLUT Mag, as well as spins from KCRW / Jason Bentley’s ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic.’ Stream now here and check out the collage video for the track here.

New York-based artist, KYOSi,  announces her single, “Boo Radley,” from her impassioned new EP, Negative Space, due out June 21, 2019, “a powerfully defiant anthem for the underprivileged and voiceless. ” (EARMILK) “Boo Radley” “is urgent and driving, hurtling forward with the isolation and paranoia Boo Radley feels. KYOSi’s lyrics extrapolate that feeling out into the general population, connecting the physical and emotional isolation of Radley to a lack of human connection in the modern world. It’s a fascinating take on the themes of Radley in the novel, and showcases KYOSI’s thoughtful writing.”(Substream Magazine)  The three-track release is a blend of ethereal pop, folk, and nods to jazz. Negative Space takes listeners on a journey through grief and anger by exploring themes ranging from class politics, race and gender issues, to the coercion of capitalism. The EP serves as a political commentary on the current administration and the injustices being faced nationwide.

Things are looking up for Patrick Krief. Dovetale is the new record by the Montreal singer, songwriter and guitarist, a triumphant union of contemporary pop and rock sounds that emerged from the literal honeymoon phase of Krief’s marriage. While domestic bliss doesn’t typically the inspire the kind open-heart poetry and high-octane pop sound that Krief is known for — and his previous release Automanic was an epic double album fuelled by heartbreak and self-destruction — the conception of Dovetale found him at the peak of his game artistically as well as personally.

“It really is a way more positive record,” Krief says. “A lot of the songs still reflect on that darker period but there’s a feeling of optimism and gratitude for how things have turned out.”

That said, not everything has been rosy for Krief, and the fallout from some bad times still found its way into his latest batch of songs. “There were a couple of things that happened in my life when I was writing this record that caused me a great deal of stress, and I do address them in one or two songs, but I didn’t want to make another album full of anger and bitterness.”

the 2 of these guys met years before pink roses was even on everyone’s radar. They were living in a tech-startup hacker house in san francisco. Every nite, after they had both finished work on their startups, they’d write music together. Eventually, they found themselves with over 100 songs. pink roses was born. Their new track, “westside,” evokes the nostalgia of returning to ur hometown for the summer.

Emerging vocal sensation Fiona Grey has been writing and performing music with Los Angeles as her backdrop. Originally from Chicago, Grey utilizes the earnest nature of her raw vocal quality and defines her sound as “dirty pop,” teased by shades of sultry, soulful melodies. Drawing inspiration from the world of Hollywood, it’s unrealistic expectations and the vices that people use as a form of escapism, Grey hopes that her music will help listeners aim to be the most pure and honest versions of themselves. “There is a lot about living in a pop culture centered world that we deem as ‘normal behavior’. I hope that the music can remind the listener that this follower-centric, alternate persona universe we live in is all temporary happiness,” reveals the songstress who is known for her dynamic glittery performances.

Grey’s EP Cult Classic vocalizes these cultural issues and expresses Grey’s vulnerability and anger towards the world we are living in and her desires for the world we are shaping. Produced by Grammy award-winning Mike Schuppan (Paramore, M83, Ziggy Marley) and mastered by Dave Cooley (Fitz & The Tantrums, Stone Temple Pilots), the release is packed with powerful storytelling and imaginative visuals. Grey admits, “Each song has its own identity and story it wants to tell”. Sonically the EP is built around organic instrumentation, fusing modern electronic soundscapes while ensuring that the production doesn’t take away from the honesty of the music. Featuring string arrangements, full choirs and authentic instruments, the release delivers listeners with a dynamic and dimensional experience. Having been described by Galore Magazine as “bringing Hollywood glamour to a sultry story of love, drugs and vanity” and adding theatrical elements, Grey is essentially the Elizabeth Taylor of the modern pop music industry.

Grey has found success having performed on some of the worlds biggest stages including Ravina (Chicago), Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles) and Irving Plaza (New York). She has also had airplay on tastemaker stations such as KCRW, as well as having toured internationally including heading three successful European tours.

Her latest visual release ‘Saviour’  is an ode to Felini, Marie Antoinette and the dark and dreamy black and white films of the 60s. “This video was a stylized version of relationships I felt weak in, this song was the inspiration to regain strength”, reveals Grey.

“Wherever you’re at in life, things can get better and maybe better is actually just around the corner. Align your focus and keep going. Our new single sonically distorts conventional electronic with a Coachella-esque, free-spirited vibe”. Those are the words from Eden Warsaw describing the new track “ecstasy”. Eden went on to describe the visuals for the song saying “It’s a visual story of wanderlust with the first of two, one-shot music videos. We’ve matured and grown so much as a band, with both our touring experience and bringing a more raw + alternative sound. We’re looking forward to sharing part two of this video along with our upcoming album. Let this track be your good vibes summer mantra”.

The Band Gooch gets their title from the last name of primary songwriters and band founders, Jared and Jordan Gooch. The two brothers started writing music together while working on a love song for Jared’s wedding, and they have not stopped ever since. They strive to create music that’s “relatable, real, and above all else, true.” Inspired from 90s rock bands like Green Day, Collective Soul, Nirvana, and various others, they have set out to make the “truest” music they can. They create an atmosphere where anyone and everyone can meet and bond, a community where strangers become family through music in its purest form.

The Band Gooch is very excited to share Modern High with fans later this year. For now, “Stuck With You” is currently available for streaming on all digital platforms. The Band Gooch, and their adrenalized single, “GTA”, their debut album, Modern High, due out July. The song takes a classic punk energy to new heights, showcasing the group’s impressive talents and refreshing point of view, “trailblazing a phenomenal path to the top with their amazing high energy, authentic indie punk appeal, and catchy songs.

Grounded in the folk singer-songwriter tradition, Vancouver musician Piper Cole steps boldly forward into sun-soaked, pop-tinged landscapes with her debut EP release Wildish, set for release on July 5th.

The EP’s first single ‘Bones’ was officially released on Friday, June 7th on all digital service providers, after the video premiered at Aesthetic Magazine. ‘Bones’ accounts Piper Cole’s personal journey towards striving for authentic self-expression amidst the internal limitations and barriers so intrinsic to being human. The compelling music video for ‘Bones’ was created in collaboration with local director Casey Kowalchuk and flamenco dancer, Michelle Harding.

“I am drawn to flamenco as an intensely expressive art that boldly confronts raw emotionality and uses it to create beautiful authentic art,” says Cole. “I felt it was the perfect fit to visually represent ‘Bones’ as the song explores inner oppression and resistance and the fight to be heard and seen. The flamenco dancer translates emotions into movements and makes the powerful statement through percussive sounds to ‘claim your space’.”

Piper Cole’s debut EP Wildish has a multi-dimensional dream-folk sound, produced by Cole herself with the assistance of co-producer Daniel Klenner. Cole has a background in sound design and production from both SFU Contemporary Arts and Berklee Music School and she chose to co-produce the album because she felt it was important to see the rise of more female producers in the music industry.

Combining traditional acoustic folk instruments with modern synths and sound design, Cole has created a work that beautifully tethers the breadth of her musical experience. The vocals are often layered, choral; Cole’s voice is controlled and elegant, but never restrained, characterized by high-pitched coloratura that embodies a baroque pop surreality reminiscent of Kate Bush. As the tracks progress, the vocals become focused and fierce, resounding through a forest of percussion, as Cole tells her story through music.

“I work as a psychotherapist and my music is greatly influenced by the many people I have worked with on their journeys through pain, fear and disconnection and the striving to reach wholeness,” says Cole. “I have struggled with perfectionism my whole life and it has painfully suppressed my creativity. When I turned 40, I was on a mission to get this album out after many years of dreaming about doing it. During the writing and producing of these songs I was met with a huge inner resistance, fear and lack of self-belief that felt crippling at times throughout the process. This album accounts my own personal struggle and transformation grappling with the veils of conditioning that cut me off from self-actualization and the spontaneity and sparkling creativity I had naturally as a child.”
