THE HIT LIST

The Hit List: The Chainsmokers, Krept & Konan, Matchbox 20, E-40, Wiley, Hayley Kiyoko, Tyga

The Chainsmokers – “Do You Mean” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign and Bülow): New relationships are hard when you’ve got a lot of baggage. If youre not careful, the past can choke any future before you even get started. The Chainsmokers know that feeling all too well, and the dance-pop duo channel their frustrations in a brooding pop ballad with Ty Dolla $ign and Bülow called “Do You Mean.”

This song is the perfect mix for both Ty and Bulow, and although the Chainsmokers haven’t hit the commercial charts widely in the past few years, this song is sure to make a mark on the radio.

Krept & Konan – “I Spy” (feat. Headie One and K-Trap): Ahead of their second studio album, the first official single from UK rappers Krept & Konan is here, and the duo have enlisted the help of Headie One and K-Trap on the track “I Spy”. There’s little detail about the upcoming album, but it’s hardly been a quiet time for Krept & Konan. I loved their debut and this third pending record is started off the right way.

Matchbox 20 – “She’s So Mean”: This song is old yes, but I only recently stumbled upon in and have to say I like. The video is mostly made up of semi-racy shots of a (mean) woman. Later, she licks a lollipop (“She’s a hardcore candy store”). She also throws her clothes on the floor and scratches all your records, so she’s not really one for redeeming qualities. Enjoy another underrated hit by the 90’s hit makers.

E-40 – “Rain On My Parade” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign and G-Eazy)

E-40 – “2 Seater” (feat. Tyga): If there was a contest for who’s had the most features on an album in the summer of 2019, E-40 just might win. The Bay Area legend has released his anticipated Practice Makes Paper project, and the 26-track album boasts three dozen features from artists from veterans to up-and-comers. One of my favourite songs has to be “Rain On My Parade” and the second song from 40 is one off his previous album which is just as good.

Hayley Kiyoko – “I Wish”: Last year was only the start of pop star Hayley Kiyoko’s rise. Kiyoko dropped a new single on June 11th called “I Wish,” a moody pop jam about unrequited love and the desire to move past it. The song’s stuttering beat, along with Kiyoko’s stellar-as-always vocals, compliment her scathing lyrics as she chastises her crush’s behavior. Along with the new track, Kiyoko released an impressive video. Continuing her work as a director. Definitely a must hear!

Wiley – “My One” (ft. Tory Lanez, Kranium and Dappy): With just a couple months to go until the release of his anticipated studio album The Godfather 3, Wiley is linking up with Tory Lanez, Kranium and Dappy for a new collaboration and single, “My One.” “On a mixtape you’ll be trying to have fun, it’ll be stuff you’re just trying out because you’re not stuck to the formula of making a ‘song’ – and if you are making a song it’ll be a version of someone’s song, like your little remix. It’s like you’re practicing, it’s like you’re learning how to write,” Wiley previously explained to FACT, breaking down his creative process. “For what I’m doing here, I’m past that. The original part of grime has already happened, I’m just here today trying to do my part. It was an album I had to make before I was ever going to stop.”
