The search is on for the actress to take on the role of Madonna in an upcoming biopic directed by the Queen Of Pop herself. Everyone from Emmy winners and Oscar nominees to signers turned actresses has been seen for the role, from fan favourite Julia Garner to Florence Pugh, just a few of the talented actresses left in the running. Also auditioning for the coveted role is Euphoria star Alexa Demie, indie regular Odessa Young, newcomer Emma Laird and Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney.
According to sources, the auditioning process is intense, sometimes up to 11-hour-a-day choreography sessions with Madonna’s choreographer, after which there are choreography sessions with Madonna, herself. And then there are callbacks, which consist of readings with Madonna, as well as singing auditions with the superstar.
The pop queen took to her Instagram to make the announcement that the search to play herself had begun;
Madonna has hinted that Garner and Pugh are currently the two frontrunners for the role, with fans hoping Garner takes it due to her resemblance to Madonna early on in her career.
Back in October Madonna reflected on the creative process behind the film, telling NME “writing my script is the most draining, challenging experience I’ve ever had”. “It’s kind of like psychotherapy in a way, because I have to remember every detail from my childhood till now,” she added.
Stay tuned for more on the Madonna biopic.
