MAR was born in the United States, but her Latin blood and warmth run strong through the veins of the young singer-songwriter. Mexican from her father and Cuban from her mother. She grew up in a home full of love for the artistic, she began developing her skills by taking piano lessons from the age of six and then focusing on vocals. Steps that led her to her great passion: composition.

In addition to her passion for singing and music, MAR has also worked in the modeling world since she was 13 years old, participating in countless fashion shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Mexico.

Her first performance as an artist on stage took place in 2013, in Anaheim, California, a key event to reaffirm her vocation. Between 2014 and 2020, MAR participated in a hundred concerts and international tours throughout the American continent as part of her father’s, the beloved Mexican singer-songwriter and Latin music legend Marco Antonio Solís, show.

After many years of preparation, experimenting with rhythms, lyrics and musical styles, MAR finally broke into the world of music THIS JUNE with her solo release “QUÉDATE”. This pop-urban style song is a melody that can hook any heart and swing any set of hips.

A song that will shock the audience and leave no one indifferent due to its powerful melody, MAR’s explosive voice and the burning rhythm that accompanies it, without neglecting the suggestive lyrics that narrate the daily experience of meeting someone with great magnetism and such a powerful personality that you cannot resist wanting to spend more time by his side.

Hello and welcome to OLC! So I have to ask before we began why you chose the artist name of MAR?

“MAR” to me is a name that allows me to honor the powerful, mysterious, creative, fluid, vast, and limitless force of life that moves through us. It allows me to tap into this inner knowing and remembrance.

You began learning the piano and singing at age 6, what was it about music that drew you to it?

The piano has always been an instrument that, to me, felt like entering a portal and being able to time travel at the same time. Music is so sacred, and I am so blessed to have been brought up in a home where its potency, beauty, and magnetism steadily made its presence known in my life.

At 13 you began modelling, how did you get into that and were you still very active in music also?

I saw my experience in the modeling world as a fun experiment. I really admire those who are able to encompass and embody their many facets through their sense of style and creativity as well as those who mark their individuality through the world of fashion.

Talk to me about your very first live performance as an artist in 2013, and what that was like for you? I would imagine it would be kind of daunting at first?

My first performance in 2013 was terrifying and extremely daunting, but I’m glad that I was able to confront such an enormous fear of mine head on especially at a young age. Heading in the direction of discomfort is often the best way we can expand our horizons, as it always holds a key to the next stages of our lives.

Your first solo release “QUÉDATE” came out in June, I love this song by the way, what inspired the song and how did it feel to see it become an international success?

If I had to describe this song in one word, it would be flow. To me “Quédate” represents acting from that space of action, flow, and surrender to the unknown. I am honored and grateful to have such incredible receptivity to this song and I truly accredit it to the beautiful energy surrounding the creation of my first single!

You have a brand-new single on the way called ‘Calavera (Skull)’, what inspired this song and what can your fans expect from it?

Calavera is inspired by non-attachment and its importance. Sometimes we have so many expectations and set ideas regarding our desires in a relationship, so song talks about getting back on your feet after placing too much importance on a matter exclusive to fate and reclaiming your power.

You have a music video for the song also on the way, how was the concept for it formed and where did you film it?

The Calavera music video is out now on my YouTube channel, maroficial, and it was filmed in Miami. The video was crafted around this mood board that I crafted with a very ominous atmosphere to it.

You have a music video for the song also on the way, how was the concept for it formed and where did you film it?

I do have a really special EP on the way. Releasing this will be my biggest dream come true to date. I don’t want to share too much of what I’ve got in store quite yet… but I can tell you it is really dear and true to what I feel my mission is in music and is very free flowing, coming from the heart.

For aspiring artists out there, what is the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’d give to aspiring artists is to be true to who you are and not embrace that unique magic that that makes you, you. Protect your heart and your art at all costs. We’re living in a weird era where a lot of people will try to define you based off statistics and numbers, but these things ultimately will never determine your value. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t seeing immediate results when you are following your heart.

Given the chance, who’s someone you’d love to work with and why?

I would love to work with Sufjan Stevens. I really connect with his style and what he transmits. It would be an honor to work together some day.

What does the rest of 2022 hold for you?

The rest of 2022 holds surprises, things coming to fruition, and love! I’m grateful for everything I’ve experienced this year and will continue working on expanding my vision and connecting with as many hearts as possible.
