Priyanka Chopra Jonas is an Indian actress and producer. The winner of the Miss World 2000 pageant, Chopra is one of India’s most successful actresses and has received numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards. In 2016, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri which is the recognition of “distinguished contribution in various spheres of activity including the arts, education, industry, literature, science, acting, medicine, social service and public affairs”. Time also named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In the next two years, Forbes listed her among the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, and in 2022, she was named in the BBC 100 Women list.
She spent a lot of her childhood years going to school in the U.S., having completed tenth grade in Boston, Massachusetts, she decided to become a software engineer or a criminal psychologist. After three years, Chopra returned to India, finishing the senior year of her high-school education at the Army Public School in Bareilly. Her mother entered her in the Miss India contest of 2000, in which she won the Miss India World title. After this Chopra won the Miss World pageant, where she was crowned Miss World 2000 and Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty in London in 2000. Chopra was the fifth Indian contestant to win Miss World, and the fourth to do so within seven years. She had enrolled in college, but left after winning the Miss World pageant. From here Chopra began receiving offers for film roles.
She has starred in several Bollywood films, but is best known to American audiences for her role on ABC’s Quantico, becoming the first South Asian actress to lead an American series. Chopra has also ventured into music by releasing three singles and also written a memoir, which I’ve read called Unfinished, which reached The New York Times Best Seller list. Her other ventures include tech investments, a haircare brand, a restaurant, and a homeware line.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas can currently be seen in the spy thriller series Citadel, starring alongside Richard Madden and can be streamed via Amazon Prime Video. With a production budget of US$300 million, the six-episode first season ranks as one of the most-expensive television shows. It marked Chopra Jonas’ first lead role in an American project. To top off all her success she can now be seen in the feature film from Sony Pictures, ‘Love Again’ opposite Sam Heughan and Celine Dion.
‘Love Again’ is a highly enjoyable rom-com backed by the romantic soundtrack from one of the greatest female vocalists ever, Celine Dion. If Anyone has ever fallen in love or has experienced a broken heart, which is all of us, then ‘Love Again’ is a movie you can relate to.
Priyanka’s work doesn’t end there though, she supports various causes through her foundation “The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education”, which works towards providing support to unprivileged children across the country in the areas of Education and Health. She donates ten percent of her earnings to fund the foundation’s operations, and pays for educational and medical expenses for seventy children in India, fifty among whom are girls. She has worked with UNICEF since 2006, recording public-service announcements and participating in media panel discussions promoting children’s rights and the education of girls. She donated $63,000 to Nanavati hospital to build a cancer ward. The ward, which is named after her late father, was inaugurated by her in 2013.
