New Details On Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s Upcoming Apple Mini Series ‘Masters of the Air’

In an interview with The Times of London, Austin Butler shared how and why Tom Hanks cast him in Apple’s upcoming series Masters of the Air, saying it was a way for him to improve his well-being post-Elvis.

Austin Butler’s three-year transformation to become Elvis Presley for the Baz Luhrmann’s biopic has been well-documented. After the film Butler could not shake Elvis’ signature voice, to which Tom Hanks, expressed concern over Butlers emerging mental health.

“’You have immersed yourself so deeply in ‘Elvis’ that, for your mental health, it would be wise to go straight into something else,’” Butler said Hanks told him. “‘If you just jump off the train, you might have emotional whiplash… and, you know, I’ve got this thing I’m producing.’”

Masters of the Air comes from producers Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Gary Goetzman. The trio also produced Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Masters of the Air, is said to be the sequel to both projects.

 “During World War II, airmen risk their lives with the 100th Bomb Group, a brotherhood forged by courage, loss, and triumph” reads the synopsis from Apple TV+.

The mini series is set to debut on Apple TV+ some time this year.
