Parcels have announced they will release their new album, Live Vol. 2, on October 20 via Because Music. It will be available digitally and on 180gsm double vinyl. Their new single and accompanying video, “Reflex,” taken from the forthcoming album, is out now.

Live Vol. 2 consists of twelve tracks, all recorded live by the band at a secret gig in Paris last year. The album includes 5 brand new & unreleased songs and follows up Parcels’ previous live album, Live Vol. 1, released in 2020, and a fan favorite for its display of the band’s distinguished musicianship and one-take performance.

But Live Vol. 2 sees the 5-piece—from Australia but based in Berlin—explore a new, club-inspired direction and sound, first trialed at their live shows last year.

Pat Hetherington of the band explains:

I think a lot of things lead up to us making this record. Maybe we finally allowed ourselves to musically reflect our years in Berlin, moments in dark nightclubs flying high. We wanted to transport people into the club with us. Into the tense, faceless, euphoric world that can present itself in the right environment with the right repetition of the right chords and rhythms. Transcendence. When people stop thinking and just feel, just move. That deep escape.”

Beforehand we had many months touring the world, playing festivals and headline shows. Trying to make a crowd move. We felt a pull towards dance music so we started to sneak more of these long repetitious tangents into our set. On the last tour in Europe half of the set was a rave and the other half was the more traditional songs. We didn’t feel like we could go much further with it at our concerts though, especially the bigger ones. It was already divisive amongst our fans and for this dance stuff to work we really needed the whole crowd to take the trip with us and to let go. So we figured for ‘Live Vol. 2’, why not go all the way there! Here was an opportunity to rent a small club, to take away the name Parcels, and all the expectations that come with it, and just have a hot room full of people dancing. The previous year on the road was like training, learning to enter these long semi-improvised dance sections, learning how to communicate with each other and how to keep a crowd on their toes. Every night we honed in closer on new, rearranged versions of Parcels songs. ‘Live Vol. 2’ was where we would really let loose and drive it home. We would play for 2 hours, just dance music. And it was an experiment, a risk, because we’d never done it so purely before.

Parisian timeless duo and ambassadors of the “French Touch” genre, Polo & Pan, have released their new single ‘Carrossel Do Tempo,’ out today on Ekler’o’shock/Hamburger/Virgin Music. The duo will release a forthcoming EP of the same title, due out on October 6th.

Bringing listeners into a surprising, epic & orchestral trip, the regal trumpets of the ‘Carrossel Do Tempo’ flaunt in like opening credits, introducing the silky, inviting narrations of enigmatic Brazilian vocalist Abrão. Known as ‘The Tropical Magician,’ his soulful melodies and lyrics evoke the passage of time and its influence on our life.

On ‘Carrossel Do Tempo,’ Polo & Pan skillfully blend diverse cultural references and gather amazing collaborators together. The arrangements and the strings have been directed by the LA-based Italian composer Daniele Luppi (Danger Mouse, John Legend, Gnarls Barkley, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and offer an atmosphere reminding us of the greatest of classic Hollywood movie soundtracks.

Throughout their productions, Polo & Pan elicit a summary of musical hedonism that flicks like frames through Golden Era Hollywood films — think romance-thrillers in Saint Tropez or love-crossed youth in Rio de Janeiro. On the forthcoming EP Carrossel Do Tempo, Polo & Pan follow up on the global success of previous albums released on  Hamburger Records / Ekler’o’shock, Caravelle (2017), which sold more than 400k albums worldwide and certified double platinum, and Cyclorama (2021) selling more than 200K albums worldwide, certified gold in France and also abroad.

Following Icelandic pianist and composer, Eydís Evensen’s second album ‘The Light’ out now via XXIM Records/Sony, the composer is headed to North America for a run of tour dates this October. The tour includes venues such as National Sawdust in Brooklyn, the Lodge Room in Los Angeles, and a handful of other cities. These dates follow her run of EU live dates this summer.

Following onfrom her successful 2021 debut ‘Bylur’, which has amassed over 40 million audio streams to date and her subsequent 2022 EP ‘Frost’, ‘The Light’ further expands on this young artist’s scope for talent and expression, presenting her not only as a pianist, arranger and lyricist but also for the first time as a vocalist.

Evensen cites two underlying themes to the ‘The Light’: it is both a deep reflection on the rough and rugged landscapes of Iceland and how they have shaped her personality, as it is a personal expression of a sense of hope and brighter times following hardship. Both are represented by the theme of light – the inner light that guides us and the natural light, so rare in the dark Icelandic winters. Written from personal experience at a time of relief and closure in her own life, Evensen is passing on here a message of both personal and collective hope and resilience to her listeners that better must come. Having dealt with personal challenges in the very best way she knows how – at the piano, making music, this cathartic experience of intense composition and performance has culminated in ‘The Light’.

With the group’s classic 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), RZA established their widely imitated core sound, consisting of stark, booming beats and chilling samples (heavily drawing from vintage soul records as well as kung fu movies), setting the backdrop for the crew’s gritty, violent narratives.

Following the album’s trailblazing success, Diggs participated in the pioneering horrorcore group the Gravediggaz, and produced the first wave of solo releases by his fellow Wu-Tang members. Starting with 1997’s Wu-Tang Forever, he concentrated less on producing Wu-Tang releases and devoted more time to his solo career, with the gold-selling debut by his alter ego Bobby Digital arriving in 1998.

A touring juggernaut, Wu-Tang Clan have performed at the world’s most iconic festivals and stages for decades. RZA, Wu-Tang Clan and Nas are currently on tour with the return of their joint  NY State of Mind n tour.  The saga continues worldwide with international dates followed

by North America this Fall.

In 2022, RZA, along with Legendary multi-platinum and GRAMMY-winning producer DJ Scratch, released their full-length album, Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater via 36 Chambers ALC/MNRK Music Group.

Matmos, the revered Baltimore-based duo comprising Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt, today unveiled details about their 14th studio album, Return To Archivescheduled for release digitally on November 3rd, through Smithsonian Folkways, with CD/LP formats arriving in 2024 and available to preorder here.

In advance of Folkways Records’ 75th anniversary, Matmos accepted a proposition from the label to create new material to celebrate this significant milestone. Ever since their 1997 debut, Matmos have consistently created albums from atypical sound sources. With unprecedented access to an extensive archive of hundreds of LPs, Daniel and Schmidt set out to develop an album made exclusively from sampling the “non-musical” recordings originally published by Folkways in the mid-20th century.

Explaining their approach to the proposition, Daniel remarks in the LP’s liner notes: “Because we were not interested in reworking the music of other people (having just done that in our immediately preceding album, Regards/Ukłony dla Bogusław Schaeffer, on which we built new music out of elements from the Polish electro-acoustic composer), for this project we decided that we would rather focus exclusively upon the nature and science recordings within the label’s catalog and would make music only by sampling those sources without adding any new sounds of our own. We hoped to activate the rich musical potential within the hoots, gurgles, thunks, zaps, howls, drips, bangs, and zings that haunt classic early Folkways LPs from the The Sounds of the Office (1964) to Sounds of Medicine (1955) to The Science of Sound (1958). From cable cars on land to bottlenose dolphins underwater, from the quietest gurgling of gastro intestinal interiors to the wildest squalls of junkyard landscapes and the howling ionosphere above the clouds, an entire sonic universe lay hidden in the back alleys of this back catalog.”

Introducing “AMBIVALENCE,” the Mesmerizing New Album from Michael Caria of “Michael It’z”

Dive into the ethereal realm of ambient music with “AMBIVALENCE,” the newest release from London’s own Michael Caria, part of the visionary project “Michael It’z.” With roots in Italy and a significant presence in London’s vibrant music community, Caria synthesizes a diverse range of cultural elements into an unparalleled auditory voyage, poised to captivate a global audience.

“Ambivalence” serves as a sonic lens into the tapestry of human emotions, intricately weaving soundscapes that mirror the labyrinthine nature of life. This album represents a landmark in Caria’s evolving artistry, positioned to make waves in the international ambient music landscape.

The album kicks off with “Same Pattern, Over and Over,” luring listeners into its complex world with a delicate yet impactful meditation on life’s recurring themes. The following track, “Zebra,” masterfully evokes the stark dichotomies that punctuate our lives, creating a vivid aural tableau.

In “Between People and Machines,” featuring Guido Tabone, the music delves into the intricate interplay between human emotion and technological advancement. The eponymous track, “Ambivalence,” perfectly captures the emotional tug-of-war that shapes our personal stories.

Tracks like “Before We Leave,” a soul-stirring collaboration with Alex Kozobolis, pay homage to the ephemeral nature of time. “Violent Connection” zooms in on the impassioned dynamism of human interactions, while “Ashes, We’ll Be” imparts a peaceful resolution to life’s inescapable conclusion. “Monochrome” stands as a testament to the exquisite beauty found in the simple things.

Mindfulness is the new single from American rapper River Nelson and producer AltoBeats. It’s the first song off their forthcoming album We Should Escape, which is a follow-up to their 2021 release, Like the Sun Didn’t Sink.

The word Mindfulness, as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “The practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.”

So, on top of AltoBeats’ lush production, River raps about working toward that goal and wanting to achieve it consistently — especially amid today’s societal ills, like racial and political dissension, increased violence, and people suffering from poverty and homelessness.

“I’ve been reading a lot about achieving mindfulness lately, which gave me the idea for the song,” says River. “Then once Alto crafted the beat, I instantly wrote the hook and got underway with the verses. Mindfulness is one of those songs that truly poured out of me, and it came together very quickly — probably because the topic has been at the forefront of my mind for a while. I also think people can use the song to help them worry less and achieve mindfulness in their own lives. At least that’s what I’m hoping.”

As for River and Alto’s new album We Should Escape, it arrives on October 6, 2023, and they couldn’t be more excited for their fans to hear it.
Mindfulness is out Friday 8th September.

Evidently positioned as one of the most captivating voices within the highly competitive realm of emerging female talent, Emilia Tarrant once more reaffirms her stature with the unveiling of her latest single, entitled “Hard Pill To Swallow.”. Taken from her forthcoming debut Album due out in 2024.  Marked by its potent emotional charge and complemented by an aesthetically compelling music video, Tarrant effortlessly puts forth a showcase of her remarkable vocal dexterity and profound abilities as a songwriter, with Lewis Gardiner (Pharell Williams, Cat Burns) on production duty.

At the heart of “Hard Pill To Swallow” lies a deep and resonant message about the universal human experience of rejection and uncertainty. The song delves into Tarrant’s personal reflections on the transitory nature of relationships and the profound impact it can have on one’s sense of self-worth. Drawing inspiration from her own life, she candidly explores feelings of alienation, vulnerability, and the fear of being alone, all encapsulated within an unvarnished sincerity that undoubtedly forges an intimate rapport with listeners.

In Tarrant’s own words: “Rejection is a word that weighs heavy on my heart. In fact, this whole song stemmed from that single word! ‘Hard Pill To Swallow’ is a song about constantly wondering why so many people come and go in life, “friends, lovers, etc.”, and how this instability leaves you feeling like you’re not good enough. I’ve always been someone who has felt outside the crowd, especially at a younger age through school (which I think will be pretty relatable for some people!) and when I started releasing my own music at just 17. There is a brutal honesty in this song that perfectly captures my social day to day mental process, and the fear of being alone.”

Everyone Asked About You the beloved Little Rock, Arkansas queer tweemo act that has only seen its cult status grow in recent years, has released ‘Paper Airplanes, Paper Hearts’, which compiles the band’s complete recorded works (including the ‘Let’s Be Enemies’ LP, plus two and a half 7″s released between 1997-2000) into a Deluxe 2xLP vinyl package. The release is also available on digital and cassette.

To celebrate the release of ‘Paper Airplanes, Paper Hearts’, the band has reunited for a pair of shows at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus this weekend. The Friday, September 8th show with Death Party is SOLD Out, but tickets are still available for the Saturday, September 9th show with Caithlin De Marrais of Rainer Maria.

Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer-songwriter Kah-Lo releases her anticipated debut album Pain/Pleasure via Epic Records. The album arrives following previously released hit singles ‘Runaway’, ‘GD Woman’, ‘Karma’, and ‘fund$’.

The long-awaited debut full-length from one of dance music’s most accomplished singer-songwriters, Pain/Pleasure is the culmination of Kah-Lo’s experiences throughout her career, cataloging everything from extreme bitterness to thrilling gratification. Pain/Pleasure is all about retribution for Kah-Lo; it’s a story about facing those who have wronged her and coming out on top in spite of them, regardless of the obstacles and the pain she’s faced in her quest for pleasure.

Throughout Pain/Pleasure, Kah-Lo sings about building self-confidence and learning to assert her dominance, themes present in both her artistic career and romantic life. Spreading her messages of self-love and female empowerment, the album is led by Kah-Lo’s unfiltered, unabashed lyricism and love for rhythmic, danceable production. Whether it’s discussing toxic relationships on tracks like ‘Unbothered’ and the titular ‘Pain/Pleasure’ or boasting respect on ‘My Name’ and ‘GD Woman’, Pain/Pleasure balances the duality of Kah-Lo’s sassy, sometimes cutthroat attitude with her sensitive and honest storytelling.

Pain/Pleasure has seen Kah-Lo bring jaw-dropping, thematic music video accompaniments that continue to echo the album’s feminist motifs. From spinning her tale of greed and glory with her femme-fatale inspired ‘fund$’ to the choreographed dance routines of ‘Karma’ and edgy biker aesthetic of ‘GD Woman’, Kah-Lo’s bold and vibrant persona shines through.

cerebral rock band Psychology have released their self-titled debut album, Psychology, via Cart/Horse Records. Throughout its 11 tracks, the collection of love songs speak to the heart and the head of the listener as they tap into the challenges of everyday life and the significant relationships we hold close.

LISTEN TO PSYCHOLOGY HERE

On the album, lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist John Atkinson shares: “I’m not sure I would’ve started playing guitar again if I hadn’t learned about the positive effects on the brain when learning an instrument. That said, the minute I did, before I even knew anything, songs and musical pieces just started happening. Immediately, it just felt right. It feels right to be releasing this record now. I’m excited for people to hear it and to be able to move forward with new material after giving this record its due. I hope people listen to it loud.”

Psychology was formed as a creative endeavor by John while earning his masters degree in Educational Psychology. After learning of the positive effects music can have on the brain — including fending off Alzheimer’s and early dementia — he soon decided to tune up his guitar skills and make music of his own in hopes of sharing the affirmative power music has with the rest of the world.

Speaking to the release of new single “Our Broken Heart,” John adds, “I think when people hear the song they’ll view it as an outlier compared to what’s going on with the first two singles musically and thematically. In the context of the album however, and as it stands on its own, it makes perfect sense. There’s a balanced structure present on the record and this song represents that.”

Canadian producer/DJ MYTHM releases his new single ‘Bloodhound’, out now on Rezz’s label HypnoVizion.

A foreboding entry into his forthcoming Shadows EP, MYTHM has made his mark with his HypnoVizion debut. Dark and devious, ‘Bloodhound’ unfolds with spine-tingling basslines and chilling percussive hits. Sampling quotes from Reservoir Dogs, MYTHM plays into the title’s canine theme by topping the track with echoing barks. ‘Bloodhound’ is an enticing introduction to the mischievous nature and ghastly sounds of MYTHM’s upcoming EP.

“The EP single ‘Bloodhound’ was centered around the pre-drop vocal: “Are you going to bark all day?”, a memorable quote from Reservoir Dogs. I wanted to create a more rough and rugged vibe with the bassline on this one and I sprinkled dog barks throughout to keep the name of the track on the listener’s mind while they were listening.” – MYTHM

KILIMANJARO and Junior Simba release their new collaborative single, “Channel Z,” out now via Diplo’s house/techno label Higher Ground. It’s the first time the two artists, who both excel in crafting Afro-inspired house and club music, have officially come together on a release.

With KILIMANJARO and Junior Simba being of Zambian and Zimbabwean heritage, respectively, “Channel Z” refers to the body of water that separates the two countries, the Zambezi River, which is featured on the cover art for the release. United by their African backgrounds and shared love for UK club music, the two have created a unique record that channels the power of uninhibited expression.

“The track is all about finding expression and finding an outlet for internal feelings when you don’t have the words for it,” says Junior Simba, who, alongside KILIMANJARO, created “Channel Z” whilst recovering from a big night. The two holed up in a studio, with KILIMANJARO providing the impassioned vocals to create the call and response that is the crux of this record. While it may sound like a different language, he is, in fact, just vocalizing—unleashing his energy in its purest, most spontaneous form, accompanied by heavy bass and percussion. “Initially, it was two mates just messing about in a studio, and it ended up being something truly special!”
