Galantis, David Guetta and 5 Seconds Of Summer have joined forces for a brand new single called, ‘Lighter’. The single marks the first new music release from 5 Seconds Of Summer in over a year.
Christian Karlsson (Galantis) said in a recent press release: “‘Lighter’ is a special song because the creative momentum between myself, David and 5SOS aligned so well – we let the collaboration flow into a piece of music that feels emotional and timeless. Michael (Clifford) is such a music lover very much like me, and working closely with him on producing the live elements like strings, guitar and drums was very inspiring. And it’s always great working with David, after the amazing response we had with ‘Heartbreak Anthem’ it’s exciting to be putting out another big record together.”
Guetta and Galantis have done numerous collaborations over the years, but for 5 Seconds of Summer, they have only collaborated with just a handful of artists in the past decade. “I got a fortune cookie the other day. It said, ‘When an opportunity knocks, open the door,’” Michael Clifford (5SOS), who produced “Lighter” alongside Guetta and Galantis, told Rolling Stone. “That’s always the mindset that we’ve had since day one of our career. We never say no to anything that feels like it could be a step in the right direction in helping other people — who have never heard of us — hear our music.”
It’s not often Luke Hemmings finds himself on his own. For the better part of the past 12 years, the 27-year-old singer and songwriter has shared the stage with his three bandmates in 5 Seconds of Summer. Now the lead singer has announced an EP, his first new solo music since 2021’s ‘When Facing the Things We Turn Away From’.
Hemmings second solo EP entitled ‘boy’ is set for release on 26th April via Arista Records, and was produced with longtime collaborator and songwriting partner Sammy Witte. He recently dropped the first single from the record called shakes which you can listen to below.
He spoke to readdork.com about the meaning behind the song; “’Shakes’ was written on a dreary NYC evening in between long periods of being on the road,” Luke explains. “This made it come naturally to write from a melancholy place and feeling of yearning to be back home and feeling lonely and emotionally depleted. There is a longing for love and self-acceptance in the lyrics and I hope it to be a song and feeling that anyone listening can find themselves in and attach their own story.”
