INsiders Guide: ASHRR, Culture Wars, PRONOUN, The Mysterines, Emo Nite’s Podcast, Miranda Lambert…

Los Angeles-based alt-electronic supergroup ASHRR release their new single “Different Kind of Life” via esteemed UK label 20/20 Vision Recordings.

The group, composed of GRAMMY-nominated producer, composer, and mixer Ethan Allen, piano prodigy, guitarist, singer, producer, and songwriter Josh Charles, and vocalist Steven Davis, represents a fusion of talents and expertise across pop, rock, R&B, and big band. With each individual member drawing from their deep experience and musical knowledge, they combine to form a sum greater than their parts.  The trio’s range of influences come together on “Different Kind Of Life,” which embraces their unique method of genre crisscrossing, colliding soulful disco and house music with vintage Afrobeat and post-punk.

“DKOL is about the expression of samsara, the cycle of never being pleased with what you have, but always wanting more or something else.  When we went to write this song which started out with the bass line and polyrhythmic drums, we eventually mixed up our love of Afrobeat rhythms from the late 70’s with the post-punk soul dance floor anthems that Frankie Knuckles would be playing at Paradise Garage on a Saturday night.” — ASHRR

Alternative group Culture Wars is thrilled to announce their forthcoming single “Heaven”, marking the band’s first new music since their 2021 EP teche. “Heaven” is a straight-up rock song juxtaposed through the lens of the R&B/pop style production beloved by the band’s own Caleb Contreras (whose credits include THEY and Kacey Musgraves).

Pre-save the new song, out May 30th, here: https://cwm.lnk.to/heaven.

“It became a daily ritual. I would wake up, walk the long way down Bondi Beach to get coffee and breakfast, come back to my rental unit, and log onto Zoom to begin writing with Caleb,” shares front man Alex Dugan. For me it was 10am, but for him it was nighttime. ‘Heaven’ was written in two parts, the verse in Bondi, and the chorus after I had moved units to Edgecliff.

He continues: “I was living in Sydney by myself for about a year, chasing a girl that I was in love with (and still am). Finding my way in Sydney knowing no one else, writing an album that didn’t exist yet, and thus meaning quite literally ‘All I have is your love’.

one women indie-bedroom-arena-rock artist, PRONOUN, has released a new single called “i haven’t felt like me”. The song is accompanied by a 90’s teen heartthrob inspired, and arguably camp, music video directed by Jax Anderson.

“I wrote this on a drive back to Brooklyn from the holiday break in winter 2023/2024,” says PRONOUN aka Alyse Vellturo. “It’s about messing something up before it even started and feeling in limbo.” In true PRONOUN fashion, the song is filled with shimmering guitar riffs guiding the listener through the story of a fumbled first shot. “So I guess this is over, I’ve officially blown it. The next steps for me are forgetting that moment”, she sings, swallowing her pride.

Liverpool alternative rock band The Mysterines have released the official video for their latest single “Sink Ya Teeth,” the second track to be taken from their highly-anticipated new album Afraid of Tomorrows, due for release on June 7 via Fiction Records / Virgin — Watch the video / Presave the album.

Shot in a North London warehouse, the Sarah Ebert directed video features frontwoman Lia Metcalfe in a vibrant party scene that quickly descends into chaos as intoxication takes hold. What starts as a joyous celebration turns into unhinged scenes of despair.

Lia said about the making of the video “It was great fun. Basically got our label to pay for a huge party with loads of crazy characters. It was like a fever dream.. I went home eventually”.

On the recent Spring Equinox Scottish composer Erland Cooper – who merges music with evocative storytelling and conceptual art – listened to and digitised the mastertape he buried in the earth three years ago for the very first time.

The only existing recording of his new work, Carve the Runes Then Be Content With Silence, was left underground to be nurtured and manipulated by the soil with all digital copies permanently deleted. It is a collaboration with the natural world, with the earth itself. This totally unique album is now set for release on September 20th on Mercury KX/Decca, in line with the Autumn Equinox on September 22nd. Also recently announced is a full UK, US and European tour, including London’s Barbican and the remote Scottish Island Orkney, where he grew up. See below for the full list of dates.
Hailed as “Nature’s Songwriter” (Guardian), in May 2021 Erland “planted” the sole recording of the work on 1⁄4 inch magnetic tape — with digital files permanently deleted — along with the sheet music, near his childhood home in Orkney, Scotland. In an unprecedented move, Mercury KX/Decca agreed to release the album that, instead of going to the studio to be mixed, was going under the ground and into the soil. The Times stated, “In an act that is either admirable or insane, Decca Records has signed Cooper for an album it will have to wait three years to hear.” A date for the public reveal, at the Barbican, was also announced as the tape lay, as yet unheard, in the soil – a release plan never before seen in the record industry.
Erland Cooper himself explains, “It’s a meditation on value, process, patience and art. Any alterations to the sound and music, produced by the earth, will be reincorporated into the pages of a final score for live performance, as orchestral articulations. Then, the work is complete.”
