Alternative-indie sensations Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler have made Brentwood Road their creative sanctuary for the last five years, and their latest musical endeavor, brent iii, is a testament to their journey. Released on November 1, this project serves as the third chapter in their brent series. Like its predecessors, brent iii dives deep into the complexities of love and loss, showcasing the duo’s profound ability to convey vulnerability through their emotive songwriting.

The lead single, “black & white,” serves as the heartbeat of the album. It navigates the intersection of comfort and insecurity within relationships, reminding listeners that even amid life’s stark realities, love can be a refuge. Zucker and Cutler’s collaboration on this track exemplifies their unique musical chemistry, and opens a window into their contemplative world. As the album progresses, the emotional layers unfold. The track “i miss you” delves into the lingering questions that plague those left behind after a relationship’s end.

Throughout brent iii, Zucker and Cutler explore the stories of unreciprocated love. In “toothbrush song,” Zucker reflects on tender moments shared with a partner, where every memory serves as a bittersweet reminder of intimacy. Meanwhile, Cutler’s “love you into loving me” confronts the pain of one-sided affection, revealing the emotional turmoil of wanting what cannot be given.

In a world filled with chaos and uncertainty, Zucker and Cutler end the album with the transformative track “just breathe.” This piece encapsulates the struggle with anxiety, reminding listeners of the importance of taking one moment at a time. The simple message to “just breathe” serves both as an anchor and a plea for reassurance amidst life’s fleeting complexities.

Ultimately, brent iii encapsulates the human experience of love in all its multifaceted glory. Through themes of longing, vulnerability, and the quest for connection, Zucker and Cutler resonate deeply with their audience. I got the chance to see Cutler perform live and I have to say it was one of the best concert experiences I’ve ever had in my life. If you get the chance, go see Zucker and Cutler who are heading on the Brent Forever Tour later this month.
