Focus Features is officially producing an Audition remake of the 1999 Japanese horror thriller movie. It was originally based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Ryū Murakami. Director Christian Tafdrup has signed on to helm the English remake, which he is also co-writing with brother Mads Tafdrup.

“A widower takes an offer to screen girls at a special audition, arranged for him by a friend to find him a new wife. The one he fancies is not who she appears to be after all”, reads the official synopsis of the original movie.
