Flickerfest is thrilled to be back in Perth for 2025, screening at the Luna Outdoor Leederville, kicking off their 3-day festival of short films under the stars, Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd February. This year’s smorgasbord of over 30 incredible short films are handpicked from a record 3,500 entries received for Flickerfest’s Academy Award® and BAFTA Qualifying short film festival screened recently in Bondi and Perth audiences are the first in Australia to experience the best of Flickerfest on tour.

Highlights enjoying their Perth & WA premieres include much loved festival award winners and favourites handpicked to excite and inspire our local audiences with the best Australian and international short films the world has to offer, screening alongside exciting, fresh local talent Thursday 20th February, doors open at 6.30pm; raise a glass to 30 years of Flickerfest in Perth at the festival’s Opening night drinks with delicious Gage Roads craft beer, Rosnay organic wine and sumptuous snacks included. Then celebrate the incredible short film talent that exists in our emerging Australian industry with a host of Australian stories honoring our unique identity and
culture with our Best Of Australian Shorts programme.

Highlights include 9 Exciting WA films films fresh from their premieres at Flickerfest Bondi including, Typo by Perth based director Alinta Burton; Farm Block A67 by Indigenous directors Simone Detourbet and Jadson Haji Ali; Recipe For Jam by Ryan Silvey; Skin And Boner by Wri, Clare Toonen, Dir Georgia Nottage and Prod Hannah Ngo; Before The Son by Dir Jay Peardon; Light Can’t Escape by Dir Tim Sharp; Joan by Wri/Dir Emma Jackson; Mr. Wonderful by Wri/Dir Cooper Clarke; and two films with WA connections including The Dog starring Perth based actress Kate Walshe (Greys Anatomy); plus Glove by Wri/Dir Perth born and raised actress Belinda Bromilow (Doctor/Doctor, The Great).

Friday 21st February, 7.30pm take a trip around the world with the Best Of International Shorts programme. Amongst a host of international highlights enjoying their Australian premieres are the delightful Belgian film Beautiful Men, about three bald brothers whose trip to Turkey for a hair transplant goes awry, winner of Best Animation at Flickerfest 2025, hot off its nomination for the upcoming Oscars and the delightful and moving Irish short and festival favourite Me And Dad about a boy who finally finds a way through song to melt his fathers heart Saturday 22nd February, 7.30pm, clever comedy also brings joy to the big screen with the Short Laughs Comedy programme of off-kilter Flickerfest shorts from at home and around the world.

Don’t miss the delicious black Australian comedy Candy Bar from director Nash Edgerton (Mr In Between), written by and starring award winning actor Damon Herriman (Justified, Breaking Bad) and the highly humorous Irish Film The Head On Him about a biracial boys move to small town Ireland and his attempts to tame his afro to fit in, only to find it growing back bigger than ever.
