INsiders Guide: GRYFFIN, Excision & Julia Michaels, The Duchess, Gianni Brezzo, late night drive home…

Dance music maverick GRYFFIN and dubstep don Excision have collided for their highly-anticipated new collaborative single ‘Air’ featuring Grammy-nominated pop songstress Julia Michaels out now via 10K Projects.

‘Air’ is an absolute behemoth of a track, seamlessly blending GRYFFIN’s signature cinematic melodies with Excision’s thunderous low-end prowess. Soaring with intensity, Julia Michaels’ emotional vocal performance anchors the track as it moves from progressive synth leads into zippering bass stabs. Destined to light up festival mainstages all summer long, ‘Air’ is a high-octane anthem.

‘Air’ continues GRYFFIN’s hot streak following ‘In My Head’ with Kaskade and his 2025 edit of Band of Horses’ ‘The Funeral’. Throughout his career, GRYFFIN has collaborated with contemporaries across the electronic spectrum. Last year, Armin van Buuren, Rita Ora, and Elderbrook appeared on his third studio album PULSE, while previous projects have included collaborations with Kygo, ILLENIUM, SLANDER, and OneRepublic. Aligning with bass music’s leading titan, ‘Air’ showcases GRYFFIN’s proclivity for heavier styles of dance music and innate ability to inject his melodic signature no matter the genre. ‘Air’ arrives in the midst of GRYFFIN’s headline PULSE: PHASE 2 Tour and ahead of festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Lost In Dreams, and more.

Los Angeles-based DJ and producer  The Duchess teams up with multiplatinum songwriter and vocalist DYSON for the highly anticipated release of “Drunk on U,” a hypnotic drum & bass single out March 20 on Monstercat. The hypnotic drum & bass track, originally conceived in 2019, carries a powerful story of resilience, fate, and artistic passion that unfolded over several years and across continents.

The origins of “Drunk on U” date back to a fateful introduction between The Duchess (Kendra Videckis) and DYSON (Lauren Dyson) through a mutual friend. What began as a remote collaboration between the pair evolved into a deeply personal anthem shaped by fate and perseverance. Initially recorded under the name “Feelings”, the track was nearly lost when Kendra’s home was destroyed in the Palisades fires – yet, miraculously, the demo survived. As The Duchess rebuilt her life and honed her craft, she revisited the track, refining its haunting melodies and hypnotic flow.

Now, finding the perfect home on Monstercat, “Drunk on U” captures the dizzying intensity of all-consuming love, blending ethereal drum & bass rhythms with DYSON’s evocative vocal delivery. Crafted entirely online, Kendra and Lauren only met in person for the first time as the final version was completed -a full-circle moment that mirrors the serendipitous journey of the song itself.

As The Duchess continues to carve her path in the electronic music space, “Drunk on U” marks just the beginning of what promises to be a milestone year for the rising artist. With an unshakable vision, she is proving that resilience and artistry go hand in hand. As she steps into her next chapter, The Duchess shows no signs of slowing down – only rising higher.

QUOTE FROM THE DUCHESS

“Losing everything in the Palisades fires stripped my world down to nothing but ashes and memories. But somehow, in that emptiness, I found the purest form of freedom—the kind that only comes when you have nothing left to hold onto but your voice. ‘Drunk on You’ is the song I’ve poured my whole soul into for the last five years. It’s about surrender, passion, and the way love—real love—feels like letting go and giving in completely. At just 2:12, this song is a reminder of how quickly everything you love can be taken from you without reason. It’s proof that even after losing everything, something beautiful can still rise from the smoke. Now, it’s finally here, exactly as it was meant to be. I hope it brings others even a fraction of the peace it gave me.”

“This song is about that feeling of being so intoxicated on someone. You’re obsessed and can’t get them out of your head. It’s that fun and sexy feeling of meeting someone new and all of its possibilities.”

Slowly building a profile for himself, Marvin has released multiple albums and EPs with Gianni Brezzo, but he has also worked behind the scenes as a producer for artists such as Keshavara, Woman, and Xul Zolar, as well as appearing on E.Lundquist’s LP ‘Art Between Minds’ on KingUnderground. New Offering ‘Sprechiamo!’ is a reflection of Marvin’s relationship with Italian culture. Backed by research into Italian music (such as Napoli Exchange, the Periodica label, and Giuliano Sorgini), Marvin highlights the deep connection between his Italian roots and his current home in Cologne, which remains a constant learning experience. An instant classic, the record is a timeless release, one that would sit just as well in 1979 as it does in 2025.

After months of online mystery, late night drive home today announces their debut album as I watch my life online will be released on June 27 via Epitaph. A criticism of their adolescence always existing in the shadow of the internet, the 13-track offering codes together vignettes of mistaking online connection for something real. With their success outgrowing the bedrooms they used to create in, late night drive home’s debut album is the first time they’ve worked in proper studios. And with this growth, we see them move from the indie-rock bucket to a more expansive, electronic realm — Pre-save as I watch my life online

“Over-exposed and over-stimulated, desensitized to what is real and what is fabricated, desensitized to the simple things,” flows off lead singer Andre Portillo’s tongue about the forthcoming album. “This constant need for more of you has become a Pandora’s box in this modern age. I’m obsessed, you mean so much to me and without you, I would be staring at a different reflection in the mirror. You’ve made me. You’ve destroyed me. I sometimes wonder why I can’t live without you.”

Third Man Records is proud to announce mayhem-inciting Austin, TX-based rock quartet Die Spitz as the latest signings to its legendary roster. The announcement follows the band’s riotous headline performance earlier this month at Third Man Records & CREEM’s blowout “Two-Day Rock ‘N’ Roll Party” unofficial SXSW showcase at Austin’s 13th Floor.

“We are so grateful to Third Man for this opportunity. We’re having a grand ole time recording and can’t wait for yall to hear!” say Die Spitz.

Hailed for their frenzied and electrifying live shows, Die Spitz will celebrate with a wide-ranging world tour that includes headline dates and festival appearances across North America, the UK, and Europe. Dates begin May 28 at George’s Music in Fayetteville, AR and then continue into the summer. Highlights include eagerly awaited performances at Detroit, MI’s Third Man Records Cass Corridor (June 1), Toronto, ON’s The Garrison (June 3), New York City’s The Governors Ball (June 7), Manchester, TN’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival (June 12), Wichita, KS’s Somewhere Fest & Conference (June 14), Belfort, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France’s Les Eurockéennes (July 4), Cheltenham, UK’s 2000trees (July 11), Atlanta, GA’s Shaky Knees Music Festival (September 20), and more. Founded in 2022, Die Spitz – Ava Schrobilgen, Chloe De St. Aubin, Ellie Livingston, and Kate Halter – has become known for their unruly stage presence, bombarding their crowds with a wall of sound which led Austin Monthly to rave, “Youthful moxie has never sounded so good.” Having quickly become a staple of the Austin music scene, the childhood friends-turned-musicians have extended their reach beyond the state of Texas supporting national tours for such like-minded artists as Amyl and the Sniffers, Sleater-Kinney, and OFF!. After self-releasing several singles (including 2024’s “i hate when GIRLS die,” “My Hot Piss,” and “Little Flame”) and 2023’s Teeth EP, Die Spitz is currently hard at work recording their hugely anticipated Third Man Records debut LP, due later this year.

Omar‘s career is a testament to his enduring talent and influence. First gaining international attention his signature hit, ‘There’s Nothing Like This’, which launched a series of standout solo albums, collaborations with legendary artists like Stevie Wonder,Lamont Dozier, the late Angie StoneLeon Ware, Robert Glasper and Erykah Badu through to the current crop of cutting-edge music makers,Omar has consistently evolved his sound while staying true to his roots.

That approach continues in 2025, as he celebrates his 40th anniversary as a recording artist with the release of new double A-Side single ‘Research’ & ‘Can We Go Out’ (which comes alongside a storming remix from Zed Bias)and the announcement of his 9th studio album, Brighter The Days’, which has been lauded to be his most self-assured, well rounded, eclectic, and continues to highlight his trademark vocals and songwriting. As always, Omar has gathered a stellar line up of collaborators. British legends like Paul Weller, arranger Chris Cameron, rapper Giggs and guitarist Tony Remy join forces with American icons including singers India ArieLedisiEric Roberson and Raheem DeVaughn, organist Ronnie Foster, and rapper Jeru The Damaja. The result is music that is ambitious in conception and flawless in execution. It’s due for release on Impressive Collective / BBE Music.

Brooklyn band Bedridden are excited to share the latest single from their debut album Moths Strapped To Eachother’s Backsout April 11, 2025, via Philadelphia-based tastemaker label Julia’s War Recordings. “Philadelphia Get Me Through” arrives today with a premiere on FLOOD Magazine, racing forward with righteous anger over driving drums and buoyed by urgent riffs. Holding onto the idea that Philadelphia can erase the past, Bedridden slams through discontent in an attempt to move forward.

“This is the most charged song I wrote for Moths,” bandleader Jack Riley says. “I was hyper-aware that I was losing it at the time. I was chasing a relationship that only made me feel belittled. Bedridden took a day trip out to Philly to play a show with Worlds Worst and I thought that having a good night away from Brooklyn would cure me. It didn’t. Soon after, I dug up this angular, repetitive riff in a 5/4 time signature and found the melody quickly. The song crescendos into damn near a metal track. Nick wrote an incredible drum part. I had the perfect groundwork for a diss track.”

Indie pop-rock singer-songwriter Sydney Sprague has released her new single and music video for Fair Field today, marking her first fully independent release. The track dives headfirst into chaos, capturing the disorienting experience of a bad trip in a hotel room while on tour—an unfiltered reflection of anxiety and the unpredictable nature of life on the road.

Listen to “Fair Field” here and watch the music video here

She says “I wrote ‘Fair Field’ last summer after a full-blown panic attack on tour, triggered by an edible in a hotel room in Hays, Kansas. The song carries this underlying tension—almost playful, but also unsettling—that originally captured the chaos of life on the road. Lately, though, it feels like a reflection of the world at large, everything unraveling in real time. I recorded it at home with my band (Chuck Morriss, Sébastien Deramat, and Matt Storto), marking my first independent release in a long time. Reclaiming full creative control has been incredibly freeing—it’s all about making music I love, on my own terms, and just having fun with it again.”

Even in the midst of uncertainty, Sydney finds humor in the madness—though no distraction can completely silence the weight of everything caving in. The truth is unbearable, the knowing and not knowing all at once. But if nothing else, Fair Field reminds us that no high, or low, lasts forever.

Like all of her music, Sydney fuses infectious, melody-driven pop hooks with a raw, gritty edge, layered with a punk-rock attitude that makes her one of the most distinct voices in today’s indie rock scene.

Brooklyn-based singer, pianist, and visual artist Eliana Glass shares her new single, “Good Friends Call Me E,” the latest preview of her debut album E, out April 25 via Shelter Press (Claire Rousay, Félicia Atkinson, Perila). Though she has collaborated with artists like June McDoom, Francis Harris (Frank & Tony), and Chantal Michelle, Eliana only recently stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist, following last month’s album announcement and the release of her first official solo track, “Shrine,” which quickly gained recognition from tastemakers and outlets including Marg.mp3, NPR Music, NTS, Pitchfork, and Resident Advisor.

To mark today’s single release, Eliana is also sharing her first-ever interview with Tone Glow, who call E “one of the most striking debuts of the year… Glass performs songs—both her own as well as those by Carla Bley and Annette Peacock—with a clarity that proves intimately homespun but also eminently transportive.”  “Good Friends Call Me E” offers another glimpse into her nuanced songwriting—a balance of compelling abstraction and disarming intimacy. Originally an off-the-cuff late-night improvisation, the new single weaves cryptic yet vivid childhood memories, from a mysterious figure known as the “bad man” to the childhood nickname that gives the song and album their title. While deeply personal, its open-ended lyricism invites listeners to find their own meaning within its evocative imagery.

To celebrate the album’s release, Glass will host a special listening party and live performance on April 24, 2025, at Public Records in Brooklyn, NY. The evening begins with an intimate listening session and brief live performance at 8 PM, followed by a DJ set from multidisciplinary artist Liv Ryan.

Polish rock group Bagdad are excited to share their debut EP, They Don’t Know via Houston’s tastemaking Rite Field Records. Recorded in the summer of 2024, They Don’t Know brings a nostalgic fusion of grunge’s explosive guitars and slowcore’s poignant depth. Bagdad’s distinctive edge crafts a sound that is so distinctive and undeniably their own. A trio consisting of guitarist and vocalist Franciszek Drobiński, bassist Wojciech Stach and drummer Jakub Gadamski, Bagdad bring their unique, Eastern European sensibilities to songs bursting with nostalgic melancholy and emotional resistance.

“They Don’t Know” has come quite a long way. The songs were basically ready more than two years ago, but due to personnel changes in the band, the whole process dragged on,” explains Franciszek Drobiński. “When we entered the recording studio last summer, we weren’t contracted with any record label, so we had to take care of everything ourselves. Then it went on its own, and by some chance we’re releasing this EP under a label from Houston, Texas, more than five thousand miles from our hometown. It’s pretty crazy.”
