INsiders Guide: Ricky Bravo, Ben Turner, Marla Kether, Erin Lunsford, Apollo Brown…

DIY hip-hop visionary Ricky Bravo has released his new music video for “I’M LEAVING YOU,” out today! The black-and-white visual directed by KreativeFilms sees the rapper at the piano getting vulnerable – explaining that he must choose his career over romance. The track was done in collaboration with Billboard producer Jcabz (Lil Macks, Real Boston Richey, Yung Mal) and is currently featured on Apple Music’s ‘The New New York’ editorial playlist.

On the back of his powerful debut album A Breath of Light which dropped  in April this year, Ben Turner is gearing up to release the record’s second single Starting to See, along with a live video, on July 4th.  Fans of Bruce Springsteen, Ben Howard and Gregory Alan Isakov are in for a treat.

A simple song of hope and new beginnings.

Written with a cautious optimism in early 2022, the song reflects the feeling of the post COVID era. Its imagery of springtime transitioning to summer gently brings home the song’s message that life, no matter how changed and unfamiliar, does indeed go on.

This theme resonates powerfully in the lyrics:

“Shake off the feathers and bones, of the years that never came”

About the writing of the song, Ben says, “I have a handful of songs that have fallen into my lap, and this one  showed up on a beautiful March morning at a friend’s kitchen table. The final version came a year later, and  the only reason it took so long is because I tried too hard to make it something it wasn’t. What you hear on  the record is much closer to how it came to me first. Sometimes you just have to submit!”

Recorded over the course of just four days, A Breath of Light is a mammoth achievement, with Ben recording guitars, vocals, drums, piano, bass and double bass for ten tracks himself. Thanks to the expert  guidance of engineer Brendan Carthy, this frantic window of creativity was carefully captured, with closing  track Starting to See being the perfect exhale after this journey.

“Once I realized there isn’t a table for me to sit at, I decided I’d have to build my own.” That quote from financial powerhouse Suneera Madhani didn’t just resonate with Detroit’s Bronze Nazareth. It lit a fire. After reading it in an interview, he printed it out and pinned it to the wall of his studio. That line became the seed for “Lemon Glue,” a blistering head-nodder produced by the iconic Apollo Brown and the first single from the upcoming album Funeral For A Dream, out July 25, 2025.
Apollo delivers thunderous, soul-splitting drums beneath a haunting loop that sounds like it was lifted straight from the attic of a long-abandoned bando. It’s classic Apollo. Dusty, cinematic, raw, refined. The beat alone hits like every door ever closed on a dreamer.
Bronzeman meets it with some of his sharpest verses to date, blending poetry with lived experience. “Showed them how the quilt was sewn, no seat at the table for me, so I built a throne,” he spits, turning a lifetime of silence into something permanent. Brooklyn’s Eddie Kaine enters the third verse with precision. Focused. Measured. Unshakable. He adds just the right amount of edge to the track’s message of earned success.
“Lemon Glue” is mood music for the ones who built from nothing. No shortcuts, no applause. Just work. And now, it’s time to enjoy the win. Floating in an inner tube at the lakehouse, Lemon Glue strain in hand, while the rest of the world takes notice.
The Filth is home.

fanclubwallet, the indie-pop songwriting project of Hannah Judge, releases a new single and video, “Cotton Mouth,” out today via Lauren Records.

WATCH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiE477j9OV8

“Cotton Mouth” is iridescent, sparkling with minimal but driving rhythm guitar and bubbling synths, light and frothy like a glass of champagne. Written during a time when Judge was sick, “Cotton Mouth” reflects on the weight of external pressure – trying to live up to expectations she wasn’t sure she could meet.

The track began with a loose, off-kilter bassline from Judge and a guitar lead from co-writer Michael Watson, who also plays drums and handles production for the band. The end result is a bittersweet juxtaposition of upbeat, almost saccharine instrumentation and vulnerable lyrics unpacking Judge’s perceived shortcomings. “Those were better times,” Judge sings, “But were they better at all?”

Athens, Greece-based American composer and multi-instrumentalist John Also Bennett shares “Ston Elaióna,” the second preview from his forthcoming albumΣτoν Eλαιώνα / Ston Elaióna, out July 25 via Shelter Press. The album’s title track and opener “Ston Elaióna” is but one key to unlocking the record’s multilayered worlds: swells of intertwining bass flute, oscillators, and Yamaha DX7ii channel feelings of playful contentment felt by Bennett while in his apartment, reflecting quiet moments spent among the ancient hills of the noisy city that he now calls home.

Initially emerging during the mid 2000s as part of Columbus, Ohio’s music scene, before relocating to NYC around 2010, Bennett’s diverse activities picked up an increasing sense of pace over the following decade – performing and recording as a solo artist, with the electronic band Forma and with CV & JAB, his prolific duo with his partner Christina Vantzou, as well as playing in Jon Gibson’s ensemble among many other multifaceted collaborations. However, since 2020 the flautist and electroacoustic composer has existed in a semi nomadic state: drifting between Brooklyn, Brussels, extensive tours, and Greece, where he finally came to rest in Athens last year.

Drawing upon a carefully honed attentiveness to the environments and experiences of everyday life, Ston Elaióna is a suite of nine pieces (with an additional track exclusive to physical formats), many of them composed and played live as the early morning sun touched the Parthenon, in full view from Bennett’s studio window. Bennett’s refinement and restraint, honed over his years adrift, led him to adopt a limited palette focused on his primary instrument, the bass flute, and a Yamaha DX7ii synthesizer tuned to just intonation scales. Alongside a handful of other keyboards, digital oscillators triggered by his flute, and occasional field recordings, this simple palette is reflected by the deeply emotive sense of minimalism that permeates the album’s two sides.

We Contain Multitudes, the new heavy psych-rock instrumental trio consisting of ex-Bitch Magnet members Jon Fine (guitar, keyboards) and Orestes Morfín (drums) with Simon Kobayashi (bass), share their debut album, Minako, via Expert Work Records. The album was recorded by Abe Seiferth (Car Seat Headrest, Nation Of Language) and produced by Seiferth and the band.

“What we loved most about making this album was that almost no one knew about it while we were doing it. No one knew about our band, and so we did it in a sort of absolute secrecy, and with no expectations from anyone as to what it would ultimately be.

It gave us such a sense of freedom. Which is probably why the first song—the title track—is 16 minutes long. It’s the song’s fault! It demanded to be that long! There was no way we could tell the song ‘no.’” –Jon Fine

Minako, pronounced mih-NAH-ko, is a Japanese name that means ‘beautiful child.’ The album is at least partly named for the city-pop vocalist Minako Yoshida – Simon, whose father is Japanese, came up with it. At times, Minako goes far deeper into psychedelic, repetitive, and minimalist/maximalist realms than anything their prior bands have done, nodding to bands like Pelican, King Crimson, late-era Black Flag, Explosions in the Sky, and The Fucking Champs. Minako is available on vinyl as a limited pressing of 300 copies, with a very limited edition of 50 copies on orange vinyl. It’s a double album whose music is spread over three sides.

Sydney Sprague will release her new album, ‘Peak Experience’, on September 26. With this announcement, comes the release of a new song called “Flat Circle” out now. The single is a meditation on the weight of choice and the haunting pull of possibility. Fueled by swirling existential questions, the song wrestles with the idea of alternate realities.

“Flat Circle” is about what if’s, and wondering if I could rewind my life and make different choices if it would change anything,” explains Sydney on the song’s lyrics. “Would it be better or worse than it is now? What parallel universe versions of me exist and are they happier? Did they do a better job at living? Does that even matter? Is it possible to create my own reality, or am I trapped in an infinite cycle of cause and effect beyond my control? This song is all questions and no answers!”
